Description I just did this for practice, I always wanted to draw the beautiful Great Indian Hornbill, so wonderful yet so vulnerable because of their beak filled with ivory.

This bird's coloration combined with the crest on his head makes him look very king-like! Β

Very nicely painted, pretty colors and amazing detail as always. I like the photo-like sharp focus vs blurry background effect, I use it too for such artworks too. What comes to mind is to try different "levels" of blurriness - like some areas of smaller spots as though closer branches of trees and other areas with bigger blotches of color simulating farther objects that get further blurrier. I think that can add more depth and layering to the composition and make it even more life-like.
The feathers of the bird are amazing though, I love the detail and the lighting you've done there. Did you use a reference? Either way excellent job.

Thank you very much :d Yeah, I like to create depth effects using blur, and also it's important in illustration to help directing the viewer's eye to where you want them to look at. Yeah, that's a good idea, variety would make it more interesting, I will surely consider it in illustrations, but in my studies I usually follow the reference
Thank yo And yeah, you can even find the photo on google if you search Great Indian Hornbill, I was just practicing painting and creating different materials. Although you can notice that I made the head and the eyes bigger, this usually creates more emotion in animals.

Actually you made the body bigger too so it doesn't go out of proportion. But I mean, of course you follow the reference, that's the point. Until you start doing studies where you divert from the reference on purpose to make it even better

I didn't actually did this on purpose, I kinda feel the way things should change but to still remain believable
