Your photography is amazing!!! I forget sometimes that you are just photographing dolls, and I think they are real people. The lighting effect is very well done, keep up the excellent work!

lighting, angle, hair, etc all looks perfect and hauntingly realistic. The only thing I keep noticing is the line/shadow under the lip. It never cuts off, just continues over to the side and gives it a puffed out appearance. The lips on that side look drastically different than the other side. As a whole it looks a bit awkward and deformed.
You take beautiful pics, and have beautiful BJDs, but this seems sloppy to me.

That's because that side of the mouth is meant to be swollen--it's how the sculpt is.

I understand then.with that part.
I think the main thing that makes it awkward looking is that everything else in your pic has smooth changes of light and shadows, blended appearance and gradient, but under the mouth all the way to the left is completely straight-edged.
Because there isn't even a hint of lightness on skin to offer closure to the facial structure as a whole, it looks like it was cut out. That's what is really getting at me.
But this all is just my opinion. If you are happy with it that's all that matters

It's resin, not flesh. Resin reflects light much differently than human flesh. This is merely a doll.

you aren't even trying to see what I mean. I know it's a doll and I know how light reflects differently on them. I worked with ceramics a long time. So guess what omg, I know about this.
I did have more typed but decided to not post it, since I can see it obvious that it wouldn't make a difference to you. I could tell by your answer. "that's what dolls do" and then just leave it at that. If you had said that you liked how it was then I would accept it and leave it be. The answer you just gave me now shows it's not because you liked it this way, but that it's "just what they do". "Merely a doll" so this means you don't see any reason to try to take it a step further because it's not like it's real or anything. Lighting can be done to people to make it reflect like a resin doll would. So, it being a resin doll doesn't make it a special case.
Whatever, I'm done now. I'm not going to take any more time trying to explain something to someone who only has the views of "that's what it does", instead of "that's what it does so I will try some new things to change to how I want it to be." Especially since this was something that was an easy fix. That it being resin had nothing to do with what happened here. It was the lighting.
But, hey, it's merely a doll so why should I take this pic seriously.

In reading such a case, I have to disagree with your mode of 'attack' as opposed to a mode of constructive criticism. Even if one were to add lighting as would to a human shoot, our skin isn't as high in the reflective department as a resin based model. It leads to creating hot spots, and thus destroying the original look intended. The way the doll's face is sculpted aids in this so called 'awkward look' you speak of, which is nothing more than you looking too far into a slight angle that, who knows, could either be changed for the better with the tilt of the doll's head, or changed for the worst. So far as I can see, as well as many, many others, the photo works. You've worked with ceramic for a long time, so you should know that different shapes in a sculpt, as well as material, can bend and refract the light; some areas will be perfect, and there will sometimes be that one spot that just doesn't do as accepted. But guess what? That's science. It's just something it does, and unless you want to photoshop it yourself to make it the way you think is 'correct', attacking her for her answer is simply unnecessary. We can't control physics, sorry. But you're more than welcome to try.
Don't respond, please and thank you. This isn't high school, it's a place for CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. Not people who nag.
