Hello everyone :)I've actually been a member of DA for a very long time under the name napoleon-chan. Most of my work from when I was active here is digital art and I finally decided I wanted to create a separate home for my current obsession, which is ball jointed dolls. I love to paint them, I love to mod them and I love to photograph them. I've been working on dolls for commission for a little over a year, so if you like what you see and would like to have me work for you, please contact me :)

I was wondering, since you seem pretty adept with the airbrush, do you have an airbrush you'd recommend getting ? I thought I'd have a go at it myself.

When I was trying to research airbrushes, it was really confusing and everyone I came across said buy the most expensive thing you can get.Β I decided that since I mostly wanted the airbrush to color match mods, it would be fine to go cheap, and really for my level of work, cheap seems to do well.Β If you wanted to rely only on the airbrush for blushing I'd recommend something higher quality mine,Β mine tends toΒ 'freckle' around the edges, and occasionally gets 'spitty' I don't know if spitting is a cheap airbrush thing or not, but it's annoying as hell.Β Hope that was helpful, despite being late ^^'

No problem, it's a little late, I already got one. I got help from my local art guy, he is a no nonsense bloke that doesn't try to sell you things you don't need, I went for a brush in the middle of the price range, I need something a little advanced since I am using it for body blushing. It does freckle a little if I use too much paint, but I don't have very big problems with it, I have not had problems with spitting.

I tried sculpting my own doll once, but it didn't get very far. I was working from the seat of my pants, as I usually do, but I suppose it's harder with 3D concepts. So many kudos to you!

I commend you for trying, 3D work can be pretty intimidating since you have to think of it from so many angles, it's a challenge for sure. I'd like to actually sculpt a whole doll myself, some day, I've only ever gotten so far as a face XD but for now I'll settle for altering and painting, it's its own kind of fun.

I definitely want to get a Monster High doll and customise it. I have an original character that would work well. Just have to learn how to sew small clothes while I'm at it, too. >.>

They're fun, I think you'll enjoy it once you do
It's just like sewing big clothes but with a lot more swearing. It's probably the part of working with dolls that gives me the most trouble, but it's mostly because I'm not that great at pattern making. If you've got a knack for sewing anyway, you should adapt pretty quick.

Patterns make me go swirly-eyed half of the time. It's one thing I haven't taken the time to learn properly (too busy doing everything else!); I figure once I've absorbed enough of the other stuff I'll get around to it. :3
