Science Fact Friday: Spiders!

I’ll admit I’m //not// a fan of spiders but we rarely appreciate them as the cool, complex organisms they are. So here. Have a spider. I tried to make it fuzzy and friend-colored so it’d be less threatening.

That's a huge brain. Perhaps is just the ancient version of the full central nervous system where the spinal cord and the encephalon hadn't separated yet. Same hypothesis for that curious circulatory system.

Awesome drawing!

I love spiders, (especially big ones they're so sweet) but this does creep me out. Just a tiny bit.

Haha whoops, opposite of the intended effect.

Tarantulas are fun and jumping spiders are cute as hell. Everything in between...I'm still working on loving.

No prob! Hoping a little more exposure will help me love spiders too ;w; I want to, I love everything else from snakes to millipedes, spiders just kinda give me the creeps and that's not fair to them.

Look up the African god Anansi and you should find interesting stuff (he's a spider and part of his creation story says it's his fault why humans have intelligence and that spiders have 8 eyes to keep watch over us because of that). There's also a handful of cute spider videos on youtube if that helps, but I also don't know what would help someone else find them not gross/creepy as someone who loves them ^^'.

MY DUDE ARE YOU WATCHING AMERICAN GODS

They just did a spectacular job with Anansi in episode 2, spider and all. It was very cool. :v

Anywho. Haha I think it's just a matter of exposure. I grew up in Black Widow territory so a bit of fear probably came from that. I need to learn more about all the miscellaneous friendly spiders.

Right? Big and stringy. Strictly speaking I think it's both brain + central nervous system (like our spinal nerves) but I couldn't find any pictures or resources to clarify.

Awww spiders, i love them *_* and this drawing is wonderful and educational. I love everything, i do remember first time i dissected a Gibbaranea gibbosa four years ago and i still remember book lungs.

ooooooo jealous! o3o I've never done a spider dissection - in fact I've only done a few invertebrates at all.

I saw this dead speciment and i performed a quick dissection and took some measurments of legs and other body parts. This is an old dissection i did years ago on a female Grillinae specimen Cricket dissection 1 with english translation
other creatures i dissected were flies, earthworms, rats, mouse, pig heart, cow lungs, rabbit head and eyes, unborn oriental-collared dove embryo who fell from a tree (i could admire its syringe and wing development). I hope to dissect large vertebrates

Nice, that's awesome! I've done earthworms, squid, sheep's eye and heart, fetal pigs, salamanders, sharks, and cats.
