Description
Following the highly praise but material draining Type 79, Aquaria introduced the Type 81 Light Battlestar. Carried only 60 Vipers, three squadrons and coming into serviced in 7130, the Iota IV–class had earn a reputation as a good little Battlestar. Despite losses of several of its class, primary because of its small number of Vipers, the Type 81 continued to be favor by both the Admiralty and the Cylons. After several engagements against the Type 81, the Cylons begun to studied it in the hope of construction a Light Basestar with similar ability. The Type 81 proven to be so successfully that an improved version the Type 87 Light Battlestar was ordered. However, the Type 87 while a good designed and carried a greater air wings has not proven itself like the Type 81.
The Battlestar Ceto is an example of a Type 81 Light Battlestar.
