Description So, there are a lot more Ausk'phan in the universe than just Nery and Lysander, and a lot more variation than that pair shows.

The Ausk'phan are a tri-sexed race, with, per their telepathic language translated to English terms by Lysander, an egg-haver, a womb-haver, and a sperm-haver. Per Lys, the womb-havers are significantly larger and stronger than the other two, who frequently look indistinguishable to humans and even to other Ausk'phan. Typically, the egg-havers will be slighter of build, but that's not always the case.

While any sort of grouping can occur, the most common is a triad, with one of each sex, followed by any number of combinations. Homosexuality is fairly common, and there's no taboo about same sex relationships in any of the combos. If three womb-havers wish to be a triad, they are treated with the same love and respect as any other triad. When they wish to have young, they can either find donors, or turn to science to combine their genetic material and provide fertilized eggs. If three sperm-or-egg-havers wish to breed, the same can be done for them, with artificial wombs, both internal and external, being offered.

Thus far, Ausk'phan are not fertile with any other known species without scientific intervention, as their unique DNA prevents easy combination with two sexed species.

Of note, Ausk'phan have no real concept of gender roles, and thus, what humanity deems 'male' and 'female' confuses them, since on their homeworld, everyone shares the duty, the work, and the fashion options.

Also of note, Ausk'phan ears are an erogenous zone, and stimulating them excretes bonding hormones analogous to oxytocin.

Hah, I love that concept. Everything which breaks with gender roles is fascinating to me

Thanks! I wanted there to be a little more variation in my aliens, so I tried to sort out how they could be more diverse. And I obviously quite like the idea of feminine males, so having a tri-sexed species where two of them are what humans would consider 'male' if you look at their physical presentation, but being 'female' in their mating function (supplying the egg) was fun to me.
