This guy is a mix of several deep sea fish that I found online and a dash of something else. π

Fun fact: More than 50% of deep sea fish are capable of bioluminescence. This ability has many uses: Searching for food or attract prey, claim territory, communicate, and distract or temporarily blind predators in order to escape. π‘

.... This is so creepy and amazing and I fear and love it at the same time. Β I have seen those deep-sea creatures. This is an accurate rendition of how a mermaid would look like if it was based on some off them. But I love it still!

But still! Really love the concept. What species of fish did you use, if I may ask? I believe I see some elements of the angler fish, but I'm not sure of the other one.

You're right about the angler fish, it was definitely a big inspiration!
There's also the Ghost Shark (or it's amazing scientific name, Chimaera), the fangtooth (wait, isn't that name in How to train your dragon?) and a little bit of Sloan's Viperfish. π
