This is beautiful. So often manips are just about the pretty, rather than having any kind of point or story, and it's really refreshing to see a full (and brilliantly executed) scene like this.

Oh my GOD.
I love it - you just ran wild with the concept~
Most of the other people in the Mermaid/Ophelia contest -just- manipulated a photo;
But you took it, and made it into an actual standing art piece.
:>

Thank you! I'm always looking for ways to improve, and this piece in particular I'm planning on doing some more tweaking. Can you be more specific in the areas you think need work?

The darker areas look very good, but some areas where lighter and darker objects meet look too sharp and have a "cut-out" look to them. It's one of my problems as well, which is why I pay close attention to it. It helps if you make the color of the background reflect on the objects.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I do believe you're right. I'm not sure I'll have the chance immediately to try and correct the issues, but it's really helpful that you could give some pointers. I think it's sometimes easier to see the improvements that could be made in someone else's art than in your own, because for me at least I think I'm too close to it by the end and tired of working on it (lol) to be able to figure out what doesn't fit quite right.

I know, it's the same for me. I always swear I'll fix my works up but I almost never do, because I'm so tried of staring at them for several hours straight so I just give up on trying to improve them.
