Description This is for the upcoming San Jose Super-Con's annual inking panel. Okay so maybe I cheated a bit. Its not inking, exactly. But my inks are REALLY awful, and my colors can often be pretty okay. And the chance to color an Alex Ross Poison Ivy doesn't come along every day.

Check out some of the other artists submissions for this event at the San Jose Super Con online CAF gallery here: [link]

Done in markers on blue line.

I think I would be a bit terrified if I ever encountered her like this. Like the twisted disney princesses.

Alex Ross, the greatest comics artist since the days of Jack Kirby. That's for Sure!

You took a wonderful image and made it unique, and intriguing, and definitely yours. I love it, Allison.

What's the difference between using blue line penciles and regular penciles?

Btw I love how you drew this! It's so realistic and jaw dropping!!!

Blue Line can mean a couple of things. In this case, original pencils were scanned, and printed out in blue onto separate paper that I then colored on. Which means that my colors won't impact the original artwork, which I'm sure Mr. Alex could sell for GOBS of money. ORIGINALLY, the term "Blue Line" (also non-repro blue) referred to an exact shade of blue that was not reproduce-able with a copier or printer. So if you did Blue lines, and then inked over it, all that scratchy pencil work underneath would not reproduce when it went to print.

Thanks for the love; I can't take credit for the drawing, that's all Alex Ross. But I did some gentle editing, and tried to really go to town on the colors. I'm glad that so many people have responded so positively to the results!

What you do with markers is amazing. Love this piece.Liked the fact you have gone for an Auburn tone to the hair.Makes her look like she is coming out from the ivy. Inspiring

Pretty neat, but i wish the hair was brighter. It seems to me that it lacks of red.

But since the drawing looks better with the colors, it means that you did a great job !

i wasn't going for a comic book red, but more of an auburn. Plus I wanted it to look like she was emerging from the foliage, and the darkness in there.

SL1Cer In reply to AllisonSohn [2009-06-06 16:59:14 +0000 UTC]

I understand what your choices are. It's just that I have the feeling that it needs a little more red, to balance a little bit more with the green.

But I guess it's just a matter of personal taste !

Oh nononononono. I worked on a blue line; that is to say, a print out of his work. It was made available to the artists that attend Super-con to try their hand at inking it, for a fund raising auction. I did not work with Mr. Ross. Nope; not me.

Very cool. Must be those nice copics I keep hearing about. I'm pretty sure I could never get such a liquid effect from my poor Prismacolors!

Wow! I too love how the green is coming up from the bottom of her legs and how all the dark shaded areas of her skin go into a deep green tone. So beautiful!

Did you mention what you used to color it?

do you have to go to the Con to show off your art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AllisonSohn In reply to beachbead [2009-05-13 02:42:56 +0000 UTC]

the art isn't to show off; its for an art auction. The pieces are donated and the proceeds go towards the cost of running the show.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

beachbead In reply to AllisonSohn [2009-05-13 15:48:16 +0000 UTC]

i see, so i don't need to go to a Con to hand in the art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AllisonSohn In reply to beachbead [2009-05-14 19:59:28 +0000 UTC]

I think you have missed the point; the line art is available for the artists ATTENDING the show to try inking to GIVE TO THE SHOW to help raise funds to keep the show going. Its not just there for people to play with at random. Alex Ross gave permission for the line art to be used for the show, not for anyone who feels like screwing with it.

So yes you'd need to be attending the show, and donate your art to their auction.

I know; I'm sorry. The last several assignments I have been working on aren't yet released, and I cannot post the art until they are. And I just don't have the time to "draw for myself" anymore.

Ahh! Dont be sorry dear lady. If your projects cannot be divulged at this time. Then they cant. It just means us watchers must be patient. Because the wait will be worth it I am sure

And if time isnt available to you do things for yourself. Than I can relate. Its just good to see you submitting something here.
Thank you for taking the time to respond in kind
