It's been quite a while since I've actually drawn a full-body, full-color picture of these guys. It's kind of another design I can't really nail down precisely how I want, but I also sort of imagine every individual looking drastically different from the other. That's kind of how dragons tend to be even in settings with more conventional interpretations.Related content

I mean that's not really what I was going for, but I guess I can kind of see it. The back-of-the-head thing, the tail spear...they're pretty much just supposed to be a mixture of western dragon imagery and Cthulhuish motifs, with a few extra pointy bits added for menace, but I suppose my time with Ultimate lately might have subconsciously worn off on this iteration a bit.

i'd say it's mostly the head shape, the tail hook and the chest area that remind me of ridley
(i didn't notice the wings were like that at first glance though; now that you mention it it's a really cool detail)

The head shape is basically just an octopus with an absolutely colossal honkin' beak, but similar results, I guess. In fact, I'm sort of toying with the idea that their heads can survive and function as semi-complete animals without the body.
I'm not really seeing the chest, honestly; Ridley's chest is completely flat with super tight skin and no color demarcation of any sort. Its proportions compared to the neck and waist are also completely different.
The tail hook...is actually a detail that's kind of come and gone and come back again across iterations. I can't say I'd never heard of Ridley when I made the very first prototype of the design, but I also can't say I was a fan of Metroid or that it was ever really on my mind. Also, holy shit did I not remember said prototype looking this silly. Forget about taking stuff from Ridley, it looks like I turned Jar Jar Binks into a dragon with dicks for legs.

about the chest, it's not as much the... shape (?) of it but the way it sticks out and looks bone-y in general; the resemblance is actually more visible in that third image you posted there
