Description It's taken me a long time to finish this image, I havent had much time to do art lately, with the job and all, but it's finally done.

Please fullview!
There is fine detail in this image that you can't see in the small version!
Thanks.

This image is symbolic and emotional on so many levels, and came about due to a torrent of emotions that I felt at the end of November, and sometimes, still feel today.

Austar is buried in homework, she scarcely has the time to do anything else, let alone spend time with Stitch. But he loves her so much, and cherishes every moment they spend together. Lately, those times, are getting fewer and fewer. As her busyness grows so does his loneliness, so does the space between. He needs her, he feels so incomplete without her, and he's reaching out to her, knowing if only he could touch her for one moment that all of his pain and loneliness would disappear.

But she's out of reach, she's too far away. A dark space lies between then and even as he reaches out to her, she can't see him. She doesn't even know he's there. Watching. Waiting. Hoping for her to come to him, or hoping he can find a way to her.

She is bathed in the warm comforting glow of her desk lamp, while he, sad and alone, is illuminated only slightly, cold in his loneliness. The warmth of the light around her, while the coldness of the light around him, represents how, inside he feels, that if he were closer to her that his own life would be warmed, that he would be happier, that the darkness in his life would be replaced by the comforting light that surrounds her.

He needs her. And not being with her sometimes brings him to the verge of tears, just as he is right now. Lonely, isolated, but only wanting, only needing, her love.

Thus it is with Emma and I. This image really describes some periods that she and I have been through. Everything this image represents, seen through the eyes of Stitch and Austar, is really Emma and I.

Emotion drove the pencil that drew the original image. And emotion drove the art that is the completed piece. Every faint light, every colour both cold and warm, dark and light, has a meaning, has an emotion, has a story behind it in this image. It is the story of us. When you love someone more than anything, and yet you can't reach them...this is how you feel.

I love you Emma. This image is dedicated to you. One day, I hope that I can reach the warmth and light that surrounds you, and you can cast the cold and grey out of my life and share that love you have with me, with no more distance, no more space, no more darkness in between. One day, I'll reach out, and finally be able to take your hand. I love you.

Wood texturing done using PSP7 "finished wood" presets. Illumination effects done in PSP7 using lights function. It took 2 days to complete the original drawing, 1 day for the digital lineart, and 1 day for digital colouring and effects. 4 days total.

This image could not have been possible if it were not for the constructive opinions and advice of my friends, especially Stefan Ribera, Ovni, and Brandi. Thank you guys so much for giving your thoughts on the original sketch. I had to erase and redraw several times, but the finished result was much better and I thank you for your thoughts.

That's such a sweet picture, but I thought Stitch was with Angel (Experiment 624).

He is. When I drew this I didn't have a fan character of my own, so I used Stitch to represent myself. Austar was the fan character of my girlfriend at the time.

Great job. I wish I coud view it at a more medium size, though. I dislike previews, and the full-view is so big that it takes away from the presentation.

Unfortunately sizing it down causes a very noticable reduction in quality. I had a choice between pixelated or large and I felt large would be better. Sorry about that.

Ah, that's too bad. I would save it as a JPEG instead, and choose 1:1 compression (assuming you're working with PSP).

But it doesn't matter. Great image nonetheless, and it conveys the emotion very well.

Touching...really it is. Poor Stitch...he needs some lovin.
Everything is perfect though I do have some recommendations. Stitch's wrist should be smaller, paws should be slightly larger and the claws a tiny bit shorter and less sharp. (Remeber Chris Snaders makes everything round and smooth for Stitch. If you were aiming to draw Stitch in another style then the claws are okay... )
Remeber that experiment toes stick out on the feet and a very large.

Also if you want an experiment to look really cute, draw an extra highlight circle on them e.g. Mimi in here [link] or add color in the eyes like here [link]
If you want any tips at all on how to draw Stitch just give Pyreo, Shauni, Riberta, Timmy-gost, etc, or me a note and we'll gladly help you.

ou hard work paid off buddy...I'm gonna favv!

For reference, I suggest taking a look at "Origin of Stitch" on the Glitch DVD, look at where he looks at his hands compared to the "fearsome manglioid from meridian 4". That's where I got my main reference on the hand.

I have to admit though being a little hurt by this comment. I'm sure you didn't mean to, but it just kinda makes me feel like I did a very poor job on the image, and that the only ones that do a good job are the ones you listen. I know you didn't mean it that way but it kinda came across like that.

Okay...you DID do a GREAT job on this though. I know you worked hard on this and really love Emma. This picture really shows it. You've improved greatly from the last Stitch picture you drew in a few months...it tooks me years to get this good. You have a great talent and you are very loyal and hardworking. That's why I faved it eariler. Please forgive me eh

alohacooldude In reply to mjangelvortex [2005-12-23 18:49:09 +0000 UTC]

When you get a chance to watch it watch Origin of Stitch, a bonus on the DVD, first. Not just cos of this image but because it gives you a background on stitch that you need going into the movie.

When you get to the part about the "fearsome manglioid" look at his hands. You'll notice I drew them exactly the same way.

Anyway, I know you were trying to help. It just bummed me out cos ive been working on this on and off for a month and it seems like people don't like it very much. That's all.

Well, I used the Stitch Has A Glitch DVD for reference on the claws, wrist, and paws. Stitch's claws actually are sharp in some scenes.

Austar's toes I didn't want to make stick out, it looked rather bad.

As for cute, I wasn't really going for that, I was more going for gloomy and depressing, the unerlying emotion of the image.

Shauni and Ribera helped me a lot on the image, they gave me tips and advice from start to finish on it.
