Backstory:
Childhood: Ran away from home due to abuse. Her father and three sisters beat and belittled her, and her mother was ignored when she tried to defend her youngest daughter.
School Life: When she should have gone to school, she was taken in by ponies living in the shadows of Canterlot which stole for their own cause. The mare was trained to become as silent as a whisper which took her victims by surprise.
Graduation: None. Her biggest mission was to steal Celestia's crown as a symbol of rebellion towards the Princesses. She failed.
Adult Life: Moves around Equestria, training to become better than before and to find a pony she could pass her knowledge onto, even though she isn't too keen on sharing her methods.

One day, a troublesome filly was born to a famous Canterlot actress, Silent Sound. She was her fourth foal, although something was unfortunately unique about her: the filly was the first earth pony born in a long, long bloodline of unicorns. Silent Sound's husband, Silver Dusk, a long-standing member of the royal guard, immediately suspected infidelity, despite the filly's indisputable likeness to both of her parents. Silent Sound loved her as much as any of her other children, and named her Rose Red.

Being the youngest daughter of four was a terrible situation to begin with, but her disputed heritage is what truly made Rose's life a living hell. Her siblings would make up stories to each other, coming up with cruel ways to explain why she was born different. They often echoed the things Silver Dusk would yell at Rose Red, that she was a curse, and that she should never have been born. The abuse wasn't limited to words alone. Rose's mother fought for her, protected her with her own body, but it only lead to more suffering.

Her happiest memory pertained to the garden her family had. Rose Red earned her Mark when she successfully raised a beautiful rose, the most beautiful one in the entire garden. She'd forgotten all about her worries somehow, even if only for a moment.

When Silent Sound bid goodbye to Rose Red on her first day of school, a terrible feeling weighed heavily in her gut. She must've known that she would never see her daughter again. Rose Red ran away, far away as she could. She didn't even last the night. A group of three thieves found her cowering in a dark alleyway, exhausted and freezing. Despite being questioned, Rose Red never fessed up about who she was, convincing her captors that she was a nobody, a street urchin that no one would miss. So they took her in, though it wouldn't make her life any easier. Rose Red was forced to live in poverty, having to earn each meal, each new day. Day to day, she had to swipe food and valuables from the upper echelons of Canterlot. Her spoils would contribute towards the organization she was taken in by. They were rebels, scheming to topple Equestria's rulers, to collapse all those who would seek to rule others. Over time, Rose Red absorbed the same ideology, accepting it as her own.

Her captor and teacher, Pendulum Swing, didn't treat her any softer just for being a foal. He was harsh, never accepting less than perfection, total loyalty. But he wasn't without heart. With time, he began to care for more than just her performance, though he was never able to communicate that beyond the tough love he treated Rose with. She came to see him as the closest thing to a father figure she'd ever have, though Rose always took care to mask her true feelings with snide behavior and pretense of professionalism.

Her rite of passage consisted of stealing from a target's house in the dead of night. At that point, Rose Red was a skilled thief, convinced that this mission wouldn't give her any more trouble than her other loot runs. What she wasn't told that this house was home to a family with children, as her guild barely ever contends with any target that's raising young ones. Rose was caught, she panicked, and when her fight-or-flight kicked in, she chose to fight. She killed the father, and his youngest foal saw. That foal grieved so deeply, with so much rage, that she turned to Rose Red and cursed her. Immediately, she could feel something magical, something dark and twisted, taking root within her, though Rose ran away before she could give it any more thought.

She didn't return to the guild. To Rose, she'd failed the mission. That night, she changed her name to what it should've always been--Cataclysm. And once again, she ran away, far away from Canterlot, that awful place of mistakes and painful memories. As if it wasn't enough though, Cataclysm began experiencing incredibly vivid nightmares of what she'd done to the father of that family. She couldn't sleep without seeing the blood on her hooves, the harrowing look of his youngest daughter speaking the curse.

Cataclysm started to sleep less and less, spending more time refining her skills, stealing now only for herself. One day, she would return to Canterlot, take revenge on her family, and achieve what her guild has been trying to do: claiming the crowns of the two princesses, so that they may be forever destroyed, and their hold over Equestria broken. But until then, she lurks within the Everfree forest, waiting for her moment. Perhaps even take in a student of her own.
