Description damn, i am proud of that Umbreon (yes, an Umbreon instead of good ol' Anarchy )
This picture took me about two weeks to color and an entire WEEK of that time was spent coloring the Ekans scale by bloody frikin' scale. I really hope you all like it.

btw, a note on the b/g. i call it a "detached background" because it's there to add a mood or feeling to the pic but if you'll notice the moon in the b/g isn't (supposed to be) adding any light to the pic, the only light source is the Duskull.

i spent all month working on pix for Halloween, most nights staying up 'till 2 in the morning, (and as i'm uploading this i should be working on my final pic for the holiday before it's too late ) and of course i wait untill the last minute to upload them

if u wanna color the line art, i saved it just for you [link]

This is very beautiful. I love the mood of it all. My favorite pokemon in this particular picture is either the Ekans or the Umbreon.

I can only imagine how long the scales on the Ekans took you since I've never done something that detailed before.

it was a little difficult to draw him and NOT give him eyes

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WindieDragon In reply to altered-worlds [2007-11-02 05:43:25 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine it was. He looks like his eyes are closed really tight. And zubat doesn't have any legs either, just the double tail thing, but that was probably unavoidable that you gave him legs. Why is the umbreon petting the sneasel? XP

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

altered-worlds In reply to WindieDragon [2007-11-02 06:09:05 +0000 UTC]

i know, but i coudn't imagine a bat functioning too well without any feet to aid in clinging to stuff.

lol, acually the Umbreon and the Sneasel weren't getting along so the Umbreon is trying to push the Sneasel down and force it's dominance, but the Sneasel won't be pushed around so easily

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WindieDragon In reply to altered-worlds [2007-11-02 17:32:27 +0000 UTC]

ah, that explains the hunched sneasel XD. although your realistic theme is kind of thrown off by that. animals in nature simply posture to assert dominance, often standing over the one they are trying to dominate. try googling something like "wolf dominance" for better examples.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

altered-worlds In reply to WindieDragon [2007-11-04 07:27:57 +0000 UTC]

acually, if a pup or another male has close to or equal energy levels to the existing pack leader he will take on the the older one. If dominance isn't decided in energy leves, it can escalate to body posture and small physical things (not the way i depicted it here, but usually in trying to make one's self look bigger, pushing, humping or nipping). if that still doesn't work a fight will break out.

i am acually reading some dog psycology books to help deal with some problems my dog has, so even though i showed it wrong i do know something about it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WindieDragon In reply to altered-worlds [2007-11-04 21:42:12 +0000 UTC]

I also know a few things about dog prychology, mostly from TV but some books as well. I first got interested in it from a show called The Dog Whisperer. I also try to catch other shows like Me or the Dog. I wish we had a dog but my mom's a neat freak, I feel like I could handle one if we did have one though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

altered-worlds In reply to WindieDragon [2007-11-04 23:05:37 +0000 UTC]

i watch The Dog Whisperer too ^__^
y'know Cesar Millan also wrote some books, between his show and his books i'm learning so much and it's working really well with my dog.

too bad you can't have a dog, from what your saying i'm pretty sure you'd be able to handle one; but parents house - parents rules. not much one can do about that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WindieDragon In reply to altered-worlds [2007-11-05 00:09:37 +0000 UTC]

actually, I'm at college too. dorms only allow fish... but when I get my own place and financial security I hope to rescue at least one dog, and maybe foster other dogs from the shelter. I have "Cesar's Way". I also know a teeny tiny bit about cat psychology, which is enough for me to know for a fact that I'm a dog person :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

altered-worlds In reply to WindieDragon [2007-11-05 04:39:33 +0000 UTC]

good luck with that.
Have you read Cesars second book? it's more about applying the first book, and not only with dogs.

finding a place to live is hard, esspecially if you have pets. i've been out of school for two years now and i can't even afford a place to live, much less feed me or my pets. And on top of that i haven't found a place that accepts pets yet (besides fish that is ) I hope you have better luck than i do when you graduate

wow, I hope I can make it into the graphic design program at my school, then I might be able to afford stuff. I didn't know Cesar had a second book, we don't get National Geographic (one of my FAVORITE channels) at my school... now I know to be on the lookout for it, thanks for telling me about it

The scales are very impressive. I think after you doing something like that you can have some idea on how I do my stuff. My stuff is simple but just takes along time but in the end looks great like this.

I cannot get over how realistic the faces of your pokemon are (excluding the ghosts because I am bias ). And that is a general statement, not just on this picture.

Say, I do not know if you know, but I am holding an art "class" for pencil artists. The themes planned are science fiction but you could get around that somehow if you were creative. Really what the class is meant to be is to boost creative output and quality of art along with endurance (hopefully). I plan on attempting to teach my personal techniques with pencils to the students only in the class. I am just offering this if case you are interested, my fellow pencil artist.

thankyou
yeah, i think i can understand the time it takes to do a detailed picture. i spent all month, 5-8 hours a day, working on four pictures; but it was worth it.

thanks, faces are the first thing i draw on anything. and ghosts, in my opinion, can take on any shape, so it's more the coloring instead of the 'shapes' that bring out realism in them.

that sounds like fun. i had breezed through that journal before, but if you think my portfolio stands half-a-chance then sure, i'll make one. too bad dragons are discouraged, they can be the easiest things to draw (at least for me )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Eclipsis In reply to altered-worlds [2007-11-02 11:44:27 +0000 UTC]

You can do dragons. The reason I discouraged them is because I will not be able to help with what looks good/right. I am dragon illiterate. Yes, I think you stand a very good chance, especially since only one person has shown interest. Just be as creative as you can be!
