Dynasties and rulers

-----------------------

The conflict between Conan and his uncle Jean continues. Conan retaliated by suing the parliament of Rennes in 1550. He does not go there personally but sends lawyers.

He lost the trial in 1551 and turned to the King of France, the Pope and the King of Spain in 1552. Philip II of Spain would be willing to recognize Conan in America but worried about the precedent that could inspire other adventurers in his colonies.
But the war between France and Spain which began in 1552 stopped diplomacy.

Jean II tries to take advantage of the conflict to mobilize an army. Taking Port Conan would require 3000 troops or around 1 million LT. It's 22 years of income for him... Even the King of Portugal could not mobilize such a sum.
He also tries to make a blockade but the Breton merchants do not follow him.

In 1554, Jean II brought together 5 ships, 300 soldiers and 300 sailors with the help of the King of France. The commando must kidnap Conan. There is no question of assassinating him, in France one does not assassinate a blood prince.
The soldiers disguised as settlers take advantage of the All Saints' Mass to seize the castle of Port Conan. Returning from mass, Conan finds himself surrounded by his uncle's men. Conan manages to escape by jumping from the walls onto a pile of rubbish.
The commando finds themselves trapped in the castle. However they have hostages including the two mates of Conan. They negotiates there departure by releasing the hostages.

This event forced Conan to accept the proposal of the King of Spain in 1555. He pledged allegiance to him and lost his independence. But he retains his rank of Prince and only a small Spanish garrison (100 h) settles in Port Conan. The rest of the country remains under his control.
Philip II offers in marriage a woman of high nobility and character: Ana de Mendoza de la Cerda (1540-1592). He hopes that she will bring Conan back to Europe to better integrate New Britain. In vain, she will become his best support.
