Dynasties and rulers

-----------------------

In 1741 the Prince of the Bay, Jean II the Fur died. His son Jean III the Fur succeeds him and must pay homage to the King of Brazil Conan III (22 years old) during a ceremony where all the Barons are gathered.

The hitherto powerless king will join forces with the Baron of Guanabara, Conan IV Gall-Marianne to carry out a coup d'état. All the Barons and Prince Jean III were arrested in the palace of Ste Marianne on August 23, 1741. Adversaries of the king as well as Anglo-Dutch agents were executed in the days that followed.
The Barons and the Prince of the Bay must give up their power. Conan III reestablished his authority and placed the men of Guanabara, many of whom were German-speaking bourgeois.

Only Louis I, the Prince of Argentina, escaped because he did not attend the tribute.

The people who hated the arrogant and corrupt Barons welcome their fall. For the Anglo-Dutch it is a major failure. Conan III earns the nickname "Jaguar" for his ability to hide and his brutal and fatal acts. Shortly after, he married the daughter of the Baron of Guanabara, who became very influential.

To consolidate his power, Conan III launched the conquest of Portuguese Pernambuco in 1742.
At that time Europe was at war and no one could help the Portuguese who had only 9,000 unseasoned soldiers compared to 60,000 Brazilians. Eastern Penambouc (80% of the population), already largely integrated into the Brazilian economy, was conquered in 3 months.
Belem and Morada must be taken by sea and Conan III then launches the construction of around thirty ships which he lacks.
Belem was taken in 1743 but it was not until 1746 that Morada was taken during the only real battle of this conquest.
However, the Brazilians also had to suppress a strong guerrilla war from the Portuguese settlers. The repression lasts 3 years and is fierce. It left 75,000 dead and 25,000 deported, or 13% of whites and mixed race people.

Conan III occupied Luanda in Portuguese Africa in 1747 to force Portugal to recognize its defeat. In 1748 Pernambuco became a principality of Brazil.
