Dynasties and rulers

-----------------------

The truce which will last ten years allows the king of Brazil, Conan I, to repay a large part of his debt in gold while introducing a new silver currency based on the mines of Potosi. He avoids bankruptcy which strengthens the credibility of the regime.

Significant savings are made by reducing the professional army to 15,000 men while compensating with conscription, a sort of tax in kind. These elite militiamen, 50,000 in total, serve one month a year in the army on a rotating basis.

To seal control over Upper Peru and Paraguay, 250,000 settlers were installed in 10 years. In these two provinces they already represented 27% of the population in 1690 whereas they were “0” before 1666.

The Dutch settled 7,000 families of soldiers in Argentina, which in 1690 represented 28,000 people. The Spanish were no longer capable of making such an effort and timid fortification work was carried out in Puno.

The Anglo-Dutch have done the math. Of colonial population of South America, 3,379,000 people, Brazil already represents 78%! South America risks falling completely into the hands of the Breton-Brazilian. And they will also be very well placed to compete with the Europeans in the East Indies.

Containing a united Brazil is impossible, it must be divided. It is the new Anglo-Dutch strategy which will begin centuries of deadly confrontations.
