Here's part of my mom's christmas present. made with soft pastels, ink pen, sharpie, number 2 pencil, and acrylic paint. it looks better in real life.Related content

I'm not sure I know enough about traditional art to really leave a good comment on it but as a photographer I would say that the angle of this drawing is a bit off.. It feels like the tree branch should continue more to the left and I wish the tree were centered if that was the case. As far as the style and subject matter goes I think it is very unique but also very simple which I quite like. I like the darkness of the edges of the branches and the detail to the outline of the bird. The bird looks a little sad though, I'm not sure what it is about the eye that makes him seem sad to me... Overall though, I think this is a good piece and I hope your mom enjoyed it very much!

IT's cool, you don't have to be a traditional artist to critique (unless you're talking about strictly traditional technique, then i'd expect some experience). I can see what you're saying about the placement of the tree. When i look back at it, i think i could move the tree further left and close the gap between the tree and the edge of the paper.
My mom thought the bird looked sad too. There might actually be a mark by its eye that makes it look like it's sad. That was unintentional (possibly leftover from sketching), but I figure art should be left up to the viewer's interpretation.

That's what i was going for, that and i can't really draw birds without lots of reference. So this bird was sort of improvised and simple. Sorry about not replying earlier. I procrastinated a bit.
