Description It's Christmas Eve
And I'm old enough to know,
Young enough to care.

It's a magic show where you know
All the tricks of the trade--
You've become the cynics in the back.

It feels like a big lie, doesn't it?
With all the hope, belief, turned sour,
Misplaced in a stocking.

You're too big to fit on an old mans lap
And you feel this sense of betrayal from
These beings of magic, wonder.

Theres an urge to say
All the acts of kindness they did were some
Horrible lie. Trick. Deception, invalid fraud.

It says something though.

You know who they are, in real life.
Like a superheroes common name, alias.
Doesn't that make it even a little fantastic again?

You say the magic is gone.

Look closer.

It's
    still
          there,

                  Isn't it?

It's Christmas Eve
And I'm old enough to know,

Young enough to pretend.

So tonight I curl myself in my blankets
And wish upon a star.

And I'm eight again.
Waiting for the sound of sleigh bells,
Flying in the night.
