Hi Simon, thank you I have never used extension rings. This specific photo was taken with a canon 100mm f2.8 macro (not the L series, just the regular one) on a canon 6D. I also use a Sigma 50mm macro.

Hmm Ok , I never use this king of Lens but I'll probably buy the Sigma 105mm Macro F/2.8 EX DG OS HSM soon  
Do you use a crop on your original pics for this result?

This one was a pretty close crop & rotate, yes
