i just adore her feet!! How did you get the scales to shimmer like that?? I just purchased cernit i havent used it yet do you like it?? Your work is amazing

cernit is annoying and a pain, but its the prettiest and strongest so I will sometimes use it anyway. it always takes twice the time to sculpt in cernit for me. but i very much prefer a soft blendable clay and cernit is just mushy melty softness

do you bake in stages like if you finish the head etc???

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmandaKathryn In reply to krittermaker [2008-05-20 05:44:10 +0000 UTC]

yes I almost always do a number of stages, even my little mice are done in stages. for fairies I bake clay on an armature first then head and torso or occasionally just the head first then the arms and then the legs, depending on the pose I may take out or add baking stages like I may bake arms and legs together or I might bake the limbs one at a time or I have even baked the arms or legs and left hands/feet for later

I just started baking in stages I have a whole box full of body parts from pieces I have started and baked a limb or two and still havent finished so they sit in the "box of nameless parts" lol

where do you get the eyes for your sculptures?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmandaKathryn In reply to WindDrifter [2008-05-07 05:05:46 +0000 UTC]

they are sculpted when I sculpt the face, in a very few of my sculptures I have made the eyes ahead of time and inset them, but these are just sculpted in and then painted. only Vilo (the dragon that is my avatar) and the cenit BJD is did have glass eyes and Vilo's are actually buttons I got really cheap when a local craft store went out of business. I have tried some glass eyes, but until you start getting up into the 6mm range which is what my BJD has I just don't think they look nice.

To be dead-on honest with you on this piece of sculpture work, AmandaKathryn, I thought that the concept was TOTALLY original from what I have seen on deviantART myself!!! I mean, listen, I have seen so many artworks myself on there, and none match to the amazing quality that you have conjured up in this utterly fascinating and most enchantingly magnificent dragon/faery hybrid... and the purple scales that blend partially to her ohh-so-gorgeous womanly figure are SO damn well done, and so are her clear-colored wings, too!!! !!

I think β€œdragon fairy 1” has earned such a well-deserved Daily Deviation win by for such an excellent reason like this indeed, so my personal congratulations to you on the amazingly outstanding concept well-executed and for your overall brilliance in creating this whole sculpture indeed as well!!! !!

This is a TRULY HOT one right here, ladies and gentlemen!!!
