Thanks, I thought it looked a bit boring before I added them.

Tis the price of simplifying an outfit. She still looks alright without the flowers though.

That's ture, although I do like pictures with more detail in them even if I never know what to put there to make it more interesting.

Perhaps this could lead to alternate outfit designs for your characters.

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2017-04-26 13:28:04 +0000 UTC]
Maybe. Theoretically one should always have more than one default design for a character simply because no actual person would always wear the exact same things...

Looking at you, Ash Ketchum. I'd be curious to see these alternate designs.

I think wearing the same outfit over years is the least of his concerns, I mean he went 20 years without aging a single day.

He finally started growing his teeth in the latest season I think. This brings the other question how'll we age our characters.

I think I would like to age my characters naturally, at least in the context of their stories. In single illustrations they usually stay the same age...

I thought about it a little, but it doesn't really matter much in the story itself because it only takes some months from beginning to end. If at all, I'm not sure about the timeline yet.

Maybe a change in their hair could be all that changes. I believe my characters all age 23 years, but that's sequel stuff.

The hair should probably change, yes. 23 years is quite a lot, there must also be big changes in personality after so many years...

I imagine your characters will have to deal with being responsible adults in a few months' time, mine will likely have to deal with a changing world. There are also talks of what happens if one pair has a kid...

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2017-05-02 09:40:21 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't say they all become responsible adults in the end but there is some improvement there. They are mostly around 18-20 at the beginning of the story anyway, so there should already be some sense of responsibility.
Do you document the entire way from teenager to responsible adult in a chaning world or is there a time jump in between?

Not as responsible college students to maybe a bit more responsible college students then. Have you thought of the plot line or name to this story yet by any chance?
I think my story as is will span 3 years to when the main group graduates high school. The sequel will speed through16.5 years as the characters settle into the changing situation before focusing on the next 3.5 years until story concludes. That's what I came up with in a word document in class.

I'm still on the first draft of the plot so nothing's very sure right now. And I'm not sure about a name yet but I currently like Puppet Strings.
Thta's quite a long time. I imagine there'll be a lot of things happening in 3 years.

Puppet Strings, I gather the plot has something to do with not being someone's proverbial puppet.
Lot of things will happen in that latter 3.5 years; I suppose the mass culling of the world by essentially the Devil's army and political rule oughta keep one busy.

I'll try to transition in a way that makes sense in the first 16.5 years, but I can say all the characters will be able to tell the end of Awaken My World in some way or another. How, I'm still working the specifics.

Now that sounds like some of them might be dead by the end.

That remains to be in spoiler territory since it goes into how the sequel ends. I've still yet to figure out the events and the specific destiny for each character. Of course that reminds me I should figure out the specifics of the current story (perhaps I figured out the sequel better than my current story).
Speaking of which, any updates or progress on the current draft for Puppet Strings' plot?

So you don't plan everything through before you start working? Obviously since you have a sequel planned you know how the curent story needs to end, but how much of how the characters et to tht ening is planned out?
I think I have the basic plot down but I still need to figure out a lot of details and just generally what happens in the midle of the story.

How many characters make it to the ending and how they do so is still in spoiler territory. Though one part is reintroducing them to anyone new in the sequel.
When I originally thought of Demon Hunters' concept (~6 years ago?) I first started with the characters' personalities and how the overall story would end. The ending (arc) I came up with became Awaken, My World and the stuff between will be Demon Hunters more or less. I have a rough idea the main things that have to happen and will fill in the points between, but since I know how the story will end, Awaken My World pretty much unchanging in its general structure. Demon Hunters went through many more revisions however, fortunately most were still in planning stage.
From what you described about Puppet Strings' development so far, maybe we're in similar spots in regards to overall progress. Have you figured out whether there are any themes you'd want to cover in your story? The title Puppet Strings looks like there's a theme about figurative puppets being controlled by an power.

I assume even for people who read the first part it would also be useful to leanr how the characters changed in between the two parts.
I haven't thought that much about themes yet, but I probably put some in the story without noticing.
The title can also be taken more or less literally.

There are some things I planned to show in Demon Hunters which point to events in Awaken, My World as well. I won't immediately reveal what they are though. In other news I'm attempting to make an "incomplete" page to upload to hopefully progress the story faster.
Maybe in your case you might find readers who make "fan theories" about the story should they pick up on these themes.

Have you thought about other ways that might speed up the process? Like maybe colouring traditionally instead of digtally.
That would require someone to read it first.

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2017-05-24 15:08:25 +0000 UTC]
I've done some traditional coloring before but if I need full scenery like I do for comics, then I found I don't really do much for the backgrounds. My idea now is I might just digitize the dialogue, panel bounds, and whatever's easy to do and upload an incomplete page which I can finish digitizing later. (Or someone else might attempt to do it should someone want to try something sometime). From the viewers who responded, it seems like a viable experiment for now, and I have the rest of my ch 1 to redo so I can try with those pages for now before committing to anything action heavy like ch 3.
Were you able to progress your story lately?

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2017-05-28 14:08:25 +0000 UTC]
That sounds like a good plan. Theoretically you could also do the whole comic in black and white or greyscale so the colouring wouldn't be as mch of an effort.
Not really, life has a tendency to get in the way of things for me lately...

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2017-05-28 20:57:28 +0000 UTC]
I could do greyscale too, but the problem I encountered was much less of color selection and more of getting the lines and placing the colors/shades on each figure. For that reason I was also attempting a new shading method to speed things up and I think it turned out well. Other issue now is of course life getting in the way which there's nothing I can really do anything about.
