This is lovely. I wonder tho...why do you put watermarks on these smaller images? I can understand it with prints...but do you actually sell the small ones as well?

i put watermarks on all my works, no matter how small they are...and as for prints, i didn't sell any by now

I only ask because I would have loved to use some of your work as a wallpaper and I'm sure a lot of others would as well...only I doubt anyone would pay for that and it's no good with the watermark on it.

Of course everyone wants to get paid for their work, but I think that if people use my art,(not that I'm anywhere near your class,) then perhaps more people will see it...and that's a good thing...sort of like marketing yourself. What are your thoughts on that?

i know the watermark ruins the picture, but i think it's better for me to put a watermark like this one than the default deviantart watermark which is reaaally huge... though he doesn't come with prints but a watermark is a must, with all those rippers around. I didn't use them until I saw a picture of mine in someone else's gallery

I understand this and rippers suck...of course I agree with you in that. It's a shame that lazy or untalented people feel they can steal others work. Luckily most people are decent.

My point was rather this...at 72 DPI an image of wallpaper size will print so small that most people wouldn't bother, and it certainly won't be possible to sell them at that size. Of course it's aggravating to see others claim your stuff as their own, but if you make the watermark on your deviation smaller, more subtle and position it at the bottom of the image...your fans would be able to use your images on their pc's and I believe that would spawn a different type of attention, both inside and outside of DA. The watermark on "I Defy" is only a little too large and almost subtle enough to pass.

Free, good art spreads fast, and you're already getting many views. The increased attention could get you some sales in prints as well. It's important to protect your stuff but its also important to market yourself. The bottom line is that when you make such lovely art like you do and want to get noticed, nothing is better marketing than making your art accessible.

Hope you don't mind too much me butting in like this,I mean no harm and I like your stuff. I work in sales myself and I know how people think. When you've reached a certain fame it's easier to get paid...meanwhile freebees are means to a greater end. Happy New Year!
