Description GAAAAHHH Guess what guys.
I'm going to start taking horseback riding lessons skaskjfchjakfkjfff;; Well, I'm starting in almost 2 weeks from now, but I'm so so so SO excited!!! I visited the farm yesterday, and I seriously fell in love with the place. It's so beautiful. Plus, all their horses are Paso Finos. PASO. FINOS. AJHEFVCKJEW.
I'm starting basically from the ground up, since I've never ever taken any actual lessons before, though I've been on a couple of trail rides before. I guess that would count as some experience, since one of the main things I'll be learning is posture, balance, etc. The instructor I met there told me that of course, I'd have to spend my first lessons learning how to groom the horse, put on tack, and all that, though I really want to get to ride the horse (she said that the first lesson I only get 10 min. of riding...I cried inside :'c).
Again, I'm extremely excited for my first lesson. I've loved horses all my life and have always wanted to take lessons, though when I was younger, I couldn't because my mother thought I'd fall off... AND NOW'S MY TIME. ;w;
So yup, I really want to know which horse I'll get to ride. I looked at some of their horses, and they're all so beautiful. <3
*I'm going to be spazzing for the next two weeks*...

...now that I look at it, that should have gone in a journal...but whatever.

Carson took a couple steps back after he finished adjusting Lucky's saddle. He took a big sigh and with his arm, wiped some sweat off of his forehead. It had taken him quite some time to do the mare's mane. He had spent all day working under the sun on it (it was his first time doing Lucky's mane like this). "Well, I think she came out good. What do you think, Lex?" "...Lex?" Carson said again, and turned around to find that his little sister had gone off. "Hm, it wasn't that boring to her, was it?"

and this is what I get for trying to do some weird position without a reference at all.

Wow! Those lessons sound awesome (especially since I love Paso Finos)! I've been riding since I was 6 years old, but your mother was totally right about the falling of thing. I think I'm probably a world record holder for hospital emergency room visits.

Best of luck, though! I hope your lessons go great. And don't be too upset about the groundwork. I've been riding horses for almost 9 years now, but every time I meet a new horse, I still spend at least the first lesson just working on the ground with them.

And, of course, me being horse obsessed, I consider any time I can even touch a horse a blessing.

Right? I really can't wait to get started!
Haha that doesn't sound so good, but even if I did fall, I'd still be dying to get on a horse again. (;

Thank you so much!! A reason why I'd like to get the groundwork stuff over with quickly is because the lessons are real expensive, and I'd like to get to spend more time learning to ride. Again, this is coming from the inexperienced. xD Would you happen to have any tips for me though? ;u;

Aaah I consider even seeing a horse in person is a blessing. Though that must have been great riding since a young age!

Well, the best way to learn riding is definitely from experience, so I totally know why you'd like to get right to riding. One thing I've always wished I learned earlier, though, is that it's extremely important that the horse respects you. If he (and I'll just use "he" right now since I'm too lazy to write "he/she" ) tries to get into your personal space or touch you/push you around without your permission, you need to make sure immediately that the horse knows that that's not acceptable behavior. I usually do so by slapping his chest or shoulder- it seems a little bit mean, at first, but that's how horses act around each other. Horses bite each other if they don't like what the other horse is doing, and a light slap is definitely much gentler.

It was a tough for me to wrap my mind around it, but horses are herd animals, and they need a leader. If they see you as the leader, they feel safe around you, and are less likely to spook or act out because they trust you and know that you'd never let anything hurt them. However, if you don't step up to be the leader, the horse takes it upon himself to control both of you, and that's when he starts to push you around and becomes dangerous, because if something bad happens, he must be the one to "fight off" the danger, even if it's something stupid like a plastic bag.

So sorry for the super long post. Respect is just a concept I wish more stables taught beginning riders immediately, because if a horse acts out on the ground, he also won't respect someone who's riding him.

Whoa, (long post 'o'). And don't worry, I appreciate long feedback!

Amazing, I had never thought about the whole respect thing between
a rider and his horse. I never remember hearing my instructor on my visit
when I spoke with her mention any of this, so thank you for telling me this
beforehand. Hopefully, when I go (it feels so far away from now ;_; ), I'll
keep this all in mind and be aware of the horse's actions.

I also hope that I can be a good leader, because I'm not so used to being
in that position. x) I really want this to work out for me though. Again,
thank you very much! Hehe plus the plastic bag thing made me laugh. xD

I've seen horses freak out over all sorts of crazy stuff. Yeah, I'm really shy in real life, so it was tough getting used to acting like the boss. It does work super well though. The colt I'm working with now respects me and knows to stay out of my personal space, but he also loves me to bits. He follows me wherever I go, without a lead rope and halter, and really likes to cuddle and get ear scratches (he's like a gigantic dog ).

Sounds like it might be tough for me too. Really? I've never
heard that before xD (don't know much about horse behavior).
That sounds so adorable of him though!!

She looks amazing! I love it! They're going to look so cool together! The pose looks great, especially without a reference.

Good luck on the lessons. I hope you have fun and I'm sure you'll do fantastic.
