1/52 of the #1page1week challenge. And I'm entering it with the realization that I should start to examine the lighting topic more carefully. As intuitive shading doesn't really work to me anymore 
This is my gift to MadDogVII , featuring their OC Henry playing a violin. Always wanted to find a reason to draw him with a violin. Since the very moment Mads mentioned once that he could play it, in a journal opening 8 facts about this guy.
In all honesty, this is too charming ;__; The little berserk who isn't devoid of feelings and weaknesses but categorically refuses to show it <'3 So the idea of this drawing is to show that even a devil may cry, according to how I see it.
Hope you like it! /it's the second time in my life that I draw a violin at all, haha/

P.S. Btw no, I don't like the anime of the same title as this piece. Have never liked it and always found it boring for me personally (although its opening is actually nice). Plus it gives me unpleasant associations with some people from my past who adored it like crazy. So no, please, don't mention the anime/the game/whatever else is related to that concept.

I'm actually speechless.
Been sitting here looking at it for a while now, and I still don't know what to say.
The whole thing is spot on? The atmosphere, to begin with. The piece might be dark but that's really fitting, as music is something he keeps to himself. The dark room just makes it look more "secret/personal" and like it's happening in the middle of the night, which would probably be quite accurate too.
I've mentioned before how much I like the library setting and how you draw them, seeing that many details on the books and shelves just makes me happy for some reason. Plus the detail of the shadow over them gives an extra level of depth to the piece.
Also, drawing someone playing the violin is never easy, and here the hands and instrument position are very well done.
You nailed his expression, and the whole emotion of the scene comes through in this picture.

This is probably my favourite piece involving him so far, it's a different take on him while still being completely canon to the story/character, and I'm just in love with it.

Yeeey, I'm so glad!
Indeed the dark atmosphere was supposed to give the scene some intimacy, hinting that there was something very personal that the character wouldn't share with anyone. The sad but calm expression was given to him for a stronger hint at this, as well as at his personality, and only the shadow behind was supposed to show the unseen storm raging in his soul /I'm a fan of metaphor and allegory, yeah/
And the shelves with books were drawn exactly because I knew you liked them as backgrounds (it's besides the fact that they worked well with the general idea, haha) x')
I tried to consider everything, to make the piece come out... um... individual? Kind of. You know, it's just that you know what you friend likes and so you use it in your work. So that they know it's done for exactly them.
I'm happy I managed to draw something giving such an impression, at the same time keeping the character in canon and staying true to my love to dark dramatic scenes. I think it's a good start of the challenge. Let's hope I won't give up and will win over all 52 pieces this year

I just LOVE the shading! And I must admit that I would never be able to draw so many books, which are so detailed, and colour every single one of them! O.o

I can't decide now what idea to depict next! ;__; I have so many ideas, and so much to do beside the challenge that I'm now trying to pick something that would let me find time for everything.
