You wish to hear of my childhood, then? I suppose I could tell you of it, but I warn you – it’s not pleasant. To say I wasn't happy wouldn’t be quite true, as happiness was an alien concept to me…I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me start at the beginning.

I was born some thousands of years ago, when the mortal clans of this kingdom fought each other for control. I came into the world alongside my twin brother, no different from other children. At this time, the mages of the clan to which my parents belonged had come up with a weapon which would enable them to overpower the other clans. For this they needed young children, so my parent gave them my brother and myself to used and they would. We were mere infants at the time, we’d yet to see our second winter…

The mages took us, along with some other children. They raised us for a few years before…before they changed us. They injected venom into our bodies, venom collected from dead vampires. So began the three day changing period in which we ourselves would become vampires.

It was during this these three days that the mages worked their spells on us. As we lay, mostly unconscious, they monitored and manipulated the changing of our bodies. A few of the other children broke under the strain, their bodies not strong enough to survive the process. Over the years I’ve often wished that I had been one of these…

When we emerged from the transformation period, we had changed almost beyond recognition. There were the physical changes such as our pale skin, low body temperatures, and golden eyes, but the greatest change of all was that of our minds. We were inflamed with the thirst of the vampires, the longing for blood. If not for the precautions and binds set on us by the mages, we would have torn each other and them apart. The thirst consumed us. It was far stronger than that of ordinary vampires because of what the mages had done to us – it was madness. The mages kept us sated, giving us prisoners to feed on, carefully studying us to see how well their spells had worked. We responded only to thirst and to the pain that the mages inflicted upon us. When we caught the scent of blood, we would plunge into a violent frenzy, destroying everything around us.

When the mages deemed us ready, they unleashed us onto the battlefield. We had the speed, strength, and endurance of vampires, but it was multiplied many times over. Consumed by bloodlust, we slew every human we came across, be it man, woman, or child. All we knew was the thirst, and we spared none.

After a decade or so of this, the mages started to use us for other work as well. They trained us to kill quietly and quickly, and they made us into assassins. The best of us were sent into enemy territory, and I was amongst them. We killed the leaders of the clans and the mages, and soon many of the other clans were scattered and broken. My fellows and I were greatly feared, and we were known throughout the kingdom for our ruthlessness and skill.

I lived the first three decades of my life in this manner - feeding and restlessness by day, and killing by night. Death was a normal part of life for me, and empathy nonexistent. It was a horrible way to live, yet I didn’t think so at the time. It was the only way of life that I knew.

I drew about half of this during World Religions class. X3 If the teacher saw me, that wouldn't've been good. Would've been my ticket to the guidance counselor's office...
