Sealing them is necessary for the new make-up to stay (: Usually, sealants don't really have products that would damage vinyl, I think. But different sealers are good for different mediums so I'd suggest making sure you pick a suitable one.

What kind of sealant and pencils are you using? (that could be the problem) Not all watercolor pencils work on vinyl, most barely even show :<

I threw the box away so I'm not sure what kind they are, but they don't show up. I've been using all the wrong things :/ I can draw eyes perfectly on a piece of paper and pencil, but when it comes to dollies, i just get so discouraged from messing up with paint and all that. What specific ones do you use?

Yeah, I think it may be the pencil brand you're using. I use Derwent, they come in tin boxes [link]
These don't give me any issues as long as I coat the head with Mr.super clear sealant :]
