From how I see it, Irene Adler and Polly the street urchin are kindred spirits. They both find male costume a liberating way to dress at hours and places of the day and night that would otherwise be too dangerous for Victorian ladies. So I doodled them together, singing a little ditty near the opera house where Irene performs in hopes of getting the girl some bread money.
