Description Video Timelapse: youtu.be/EgaM88Af7Eg

Large aquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia .

Crocodile size , morphology , behaviour and ecology somewhat differs between species . However, they have many similarities in these areas as well. All crocodiles are semiaquatic and tend to congregate in freshwater habitats such as rivers , lakes , wetlands and sometimes in brackish water and saltwater . They are carnivorous animals, feeding mostly on vertebrates such as fish , reptiles , birds and mammals , and sometimes on invertebrates such as molluscs and crustaceans , depending on species and age. All crocodiles are tropical species that, unlike alligators, are very sensitive to cold . They separated from other crocodilians during the Eocene epoch, about 55 million years ago.[3] Many species are at the risk of extinction , some being classified as critically endangered .

Fantastic

The level of detail is quite amazing, I'm really impressed with the technique you've used to create this near photo realistic work of art. The variations and combinations of colour in the croc's is something I wish I could master.

You've captured the highlights incredibly well. The eye looks very beautiful, love the reflection captured within it. Generally when I a highlight in eyes, it's just a spot ^^'

The reflection in the water, is an almost a perfect recreation of the crocodile. With the right amount of distortion to separate it from the real croc.

All around an amazing picture.

👁👄👁 did you suffer from writing? Cause if I had to do that it would be 1 word and then:

This is a really great picture. I love the textures, especially the glassy look to the eyes and the symmetry caused by the reflection.

I think the white background was also a good choice as a busy background could really lessen the impact and make the whole thing chaotic and harder to appreciate. I really get a feel for the sneaking nature of this aquatic ambush predator. It's an extremely impressive piece. Thanks for sharing it.

The signature is also good and looks classy. The web address is hard to read up the side and detracts slightly from the whole but I completely agree with adding it as a functionality.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your opinion!
I thought about the background possibilities but then I realized exactly about what you said. Similar to a maybe impractical camouflage for aesthetic purposes.
I appreciate your point of view!

Oh wow, what's up with all these links in your desctiption?
That's some heavy visual noise. And the most important link - being one to the specific deviation you used as reference - is missing.
And I guess it is copied from wikipedia, you should quote it correctly then; or just link the article itself.

Now let's talk about your drawing.
I really like the colours and details you put into it. The eyes, scales and forms.
I also dig the lower half, the reflection on the water's surface.
Talking about reflections, the lighting is also impressive and I wonder what there is in the eye's reflection of that lurking predator.

You did a really good job.
Nice art but chaotic/problematic description .

(Found this picture through SolidMars ' journal .)

When I look at some drawing of yours, I think, he's really outdone himself this time (in non sarcastic way!), but there comes another drawing where I think the same, and another and another. You constantly manage to surprise and raise the bar even higher. Another absolutely amazing work and one of my top favs so far! That eye is fantastic and you nicely achieved that glossy, wet look, and the detail in general on the entire piece... I usually don't ask this and many artists don't like to be asked this, especially as many of them never know, but if you're not one of them, I'm interested to know if you have any idea of approx. time at least that it took you to draw this particular work, or if you know in general approx time range for work of this size or similar and this level of detail in colored pencils?

Thank you for the comment. You are very kind. I had almost 30 hours of video recorded. Similar works can take 40 and even more

Thank you for the reply! I thought it took much longer, but this explains it how you're able to submit new stuff quite often. I was mainly asking because I'm wondering if there's any hope for me. (I keep saying for years how I must start working with colored pencils and then I don't. By now I accumulated a nice quantity of colored pencils from 3 different brands with solid color range in each, enough for pretty much anything).

To clarify, I want to draw with colored pencils at similar level of detail, mainly animals, still life, etc., but my problem is that anything that takes over 30h or so is already seriously testing my motivation, drive and will to keep working on the same piece, to keep interest in it and maintain the quality. I believe a drawing like this would take me even longer time than you think it took you. So, I needed to know how long approx. it takes for someone else to do the kind of work I want to do, to know it's possible to do it in certain number of hours even if it might take me much longer for the same work because I lack experience/practice or maybe just draw slower than someone else so that with practice and constant work maybe I can learn to do it equally as good but faster. Or I should not even attempt it because I don't have enough patience etc. to invest the same number of hours it would take to most similarly skilled artists for the same work.

I think I might have reached 30h on ACEO size, in graphite, so that's why I worry how long a crocodile like this for example (once I gain some skills with colored pencils of course) would take me.
