Description
Mer Dino is inspired by a comment made by Jessica Baumgartner in the interview that I had with her for my podcast and Youtube channel. Somewhere along the way "mer-dino" as she termed it associated with a version of ningyo for me. Thus the style of buildings in the distant background. As I was working on this I remembered some very old art back in the 90's where I did draw some more dino-ish mer-dinos... However I'm not finding it in my scraps. I suppose I didn't upload that one to show growth since my teens for those needing a confidence boost.
Parts of this I liked better when they were just marker. I really like how the fins and detail on the chest scutes came out. I also liked the color of the grey cliff face better before the overlayer of green I did. The layers of color pencil over for the texture on that cliff I do enjoy how that interplays with the character. Part of me also wishes I'd done some current swirls in the back and mid-ground but I was afraid it would become too cluttered.
Honestly I think this looks better in person.
Materials
5.5 by 8.5 mix media paper, .5 mm mechanical pencil, eraser, Ohuhu alcohol markers, watercolor brush, finepoint blue sharpie, prismacolors, gel pens.
Time
This too roughly three days if I am estimating correctly. I had to wait on markers to dry to see their final shade before moving on as well as working on the flash fiction month writings and other tasks.
