This is really a great tutorial! Makes making a sword much simpler. I'm looking to make a smaller-scale sword, and I'm not sure how you got that beautiful beveled center crease in step 2 #1. Did you angle the cut when you cut the two pieces apart? Or did you just glue them that way?

Alright Ive seen this method used in a few other places and even for the cosplay armor pieces themselves. Whats the deal? Can you give me some feedback on this method of foam foundation and worbla for final wrapping?Β
Im getting into cosplay and prop making and have been researching to narrow my creation methods.Β

This has me drooling.. I recently bought a heat gun for shaping fun foam for my cosplays, but after seeing your tutorials I think I may have to track down some worbla, too. This all looks so amazing~

Thanks for this tutorial!! Perfect for my upcoming X/1999 Project! THANKS!
But, Just a question. The circle, I mean the hilt...
is it made of thick foam too?
How thick is that foam?
I don't know thickΒ and solid foam... so I'm a little bit helpless what kind of foam I should use for things like the hilt.Β Is there any technical term or any brand?

I just read the gamescom rules and regulations about weapons and it's kind of confusing to me (very formal and in english, which is not my native language) and I'm wondering: do you happend to know if these foam&worbla weapons are allowed at conventions like gamescom, comic con, animecon, otakon etc?
π: 0 β©: 1
AmenoKitarou In reply to Locosplay [2014-10-08 12:35:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes they should be.Β
Though, you should be directly contacting event organisers instead of me.Β
I am on the other side of the world, and I have never been to any of those conventions. Their rules to the ones in my country.Β

but, how can i seal the foam?Β
what kind of paint should use?
i hope you can help me ;w;

the simplest way to seal foam, that I know of, is PVA wood glue. I use acrylic paints for foam.Β

This is really amazing! I have a question for you, why do you use worbla to cover this foam, and what kind of smoothing process do you use to make it non oatmeally lol.
This sword is truly incredible! <3

Awesome!! Can you also use a double layer of thinner foam instead of the first thick layer you used as a base?
π: 0 β©: 1
AmenoKitarou In reply to Kythana [2014-08-25 11:11:33 +0000 UTC]
Thank you~
Hmmmm I guess so, but from experience it doesn't work as nicely.Β
If you really can't get the thick foam, you could try backing your foam with some tough cardboard.Β
