I made and wore this costume as my entry to the Melbourne preliminary round of Madman National Cosplay Championships 2014.
I got 1st place. Despite being a past champion of MNCC, this is the first time ever that I have placed 1st in a preliminary round!!! Yesssssss!! Free flight to Brisbane!!

Costume Notes:

This thing took a total of 3 months to make (with the majority of work being in the final 2 weeks oh god my life).

From top to bottom:
Glasses: I cut some perspex (clear acryclic) and pieces them together with some PVC plastic. The yellow colour is done by clear amber spray paint.

His vest: is made entirely of individual belts. WHY?! JUST WHY?!?!?! I sewed together a pleather vest as a base first. Then I sewed many many many individual belts. Then I top stitched the belts onto the vest. The gradient olive colour is done by first sealing the pleather with contact adhesive, dry brushing a mixture of green, silver, bronze and black paint, then sealing again with contact adhesive.

His arm cannon: is built around one giant paper tube. the structure is pretty simply foam and more foam. Everything is foam, except for the white detailed crown, thing, on top, which is made of plastic. The colouring of this was difficult because brown is such an unattractive colour. So I used a mixture of brown, gold, copper, black and silver, in 8 different dry brushing layers to get it looking nice and steampunk.

His musket/barretta/rifle/thing: MDF wood base + PVC tube + some plastic for the hand guard. Nothing special here.

Pants: THese are stupid pants. Just saying. The straps and cuffs and stuff are all embssed leather, finished with varnish for shiny effects.

Shoes: I made a shoe cover over a pair of $1 shoes. Dark blue pleather, patterned, sewn then glues to the bottom of the shoe. Eyelets punched into both sides, then threaded through with an old shoelace... lol. It also has a lip!
