In terms of the overall art style, I’m very impressed here. The colouring and general look of the characters has managed to stay fairly faithful to the original source material whilst also showing off the distinct personal style of the artist. The design of the character somehow looks more realistic than what the show gives us and yet, at the same time, has a sort of “cartoony” feel to it. This is not easy to pull of but I think the artist has done a fine job with the design of the character.
As for the backgrounds we have another case of both good design and colouring. The image is welcoming and pleasant and there are many details here that show just how much time and effort have gone into making this image as good as it can be. The details on the grass for example, or the cherry blossoms in the distance. All of these elements have come together to create a picture that not only has impressive foreground elements, but also a good background to put them in, which is something many artists have suffered with.
As I’ve said in previous critiques, I judge a picture not only on the quality of it’s artwork but also on it’s ability to influence me or others into feeling certain emotions. Can it make me sad? Happy? Angry? This picture for example succeeds in giving a sense of calm and relaxation. I look at it and I can’t help but feel “I’m in a good place right now”. The simple actions of the character, the serene nature of the environment their in and the (I hesitate to use this term” “adorableness” of it all really soothes me to look at it.
In fact, the only real criticism I can throw at this picture is in the area of originality. I have, at this point, seen many pictures depicting these two characters when they were younger and in a “foal-sitting” scenario, so I’m afraid the picture suffers in that regard. But to me, that’s not real issue as it’s by far the best of such pictures that I’ve seen so far. It’s the best drawn at least anyway.
All-in-all this is a pleasant picture that’s well-drawn and manages to stay faithful to the style of the show whilst also showing off the talents of the artist. A very worthy piece.

Honestly the only thing I liked about season 2's finale was that we got Cadance out of it. And more of a look at Twilight's early life.
Not enough of that.

I have to say I disagree with the first critiquer, I like that you can draw in your own style closer to realism, while keeping a similar spirit to the original style.
The only issue I see with this is that Cadence's neck seems a bit muscular. I realize that real horses do have very thick necks compared to MLP, but even compared to your overall, flowy, rounded style, it seems a little bit masculine and out of place. Perhaps if the muscle wasn't defined quite as strongly? Or maybe you can try making the neck smaller?

I mean that it's being done in the style of the original show. Meaning that it look's really weird.

It definitely fits into your style. It took me a while to realize that I was looking at a building in the background though. You did a great job with the feel of the overall scene and the colors and shading are fantastic; however, I see an anatomical problem. Looking at Cadence from the neck up she is fine, from the neck down is fine too, but when you merge the two I find that your definition on her neck doesn't flow to her body. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to be handing out information that is incorrect, but the neck muscles should converge in the center of the chest and with a twist in the neck like this one the muscles would define a little differently like this.
To end on a good note, I really love how you've done the scenery and I really like her mane!

I totally understand, and it's a pretty clear evidence that an artist sometime is blind when it comes to their artwork XD I ususally are very picky about the neck, you can see in my older artworks here that I do it correctly [link] [link] , and I have no idea how I could miss such a thing! Will definitely change this when I get the time.

Beautiful picture. The colours are gorgeous and the flowers make me happy on this rainy day where I am. I have a similar scene in my fanfic about these two. I like the realistic equine style too.
