Mettaton is literally all I need in my life right now.46 days. That's how much time I spent on this. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO relieved right now. Exhausted too.
it was more like 7-8 days of active work on this, doing other projects and a lot, A LOT of procrastinating.
Anyway, hope you like it! I was experimenting kinda a lot here. Would love to hear your thoughts about this artwork if you have any!

See, what did I tell you man! This looks fantastic!
You spent so much time on this and it really paid off in the long run. The lighting, the coloring, the use of shadows, and just the lineart in general are all absolutely top-notch! I also especially love the amount of detail that went into making Mettaton's more metallic parts shiny, and the fact that he coincides so well with the background (which is also great might I add) There's really not much else that I can say besides keep up the good work
Also, Mettaton does make for a really hot robot lol

I'm really glad how this turned out in the end. You're right, all the time I took really paid off. Funny fact though, I planned this to be a simple artwork. But I just couldn't stop playing with things and trying stuff out, and that's where it got me. And I'll try my best to keep this whole shtick up. Again, thank you for your kind words!

Wow, I love this lightning and atmosphere! It's all so clean and these lines are really nicely refined, and just... wow.
And these colors, they fit so well. They're similar, but you can still see every detail very clearly. It's something that I've never managed to achieve before. It's inspiring, now I need to try this. 
This lightning, ohhh. The contrast - it's so pleasant to the eye, and exposes his silhouette well!
I really like this style you're developing; I can really see that with every new piece you keep improving. Now I'm waiting for your next work to see what else you'll surprise me with.

I spent a ton of time on colouring and even more on shading. I found that picking colder colours for shadows and warmer colours for highlights generally works better than just changing the colour's brightness and saturation. I used a textured brush to draw the background. Using just texture is fine, but using brushes allows to make the thing look more interesting, I guess.
In the beginning I just wanted this to be a simple drawing, but then I decided to have the light source behind the guy, and this decision led to me being super frustrated with this artwork. That's why I spent so much time on this. But in the end it paid off, and I'm glad I decided to stick to it.

No problem, really. Yeah, choosing the light source is extremely important, so I guess it's always good to try new things. Now you'll have more experience in that matter and less problems with drawing lightning like this the future. Not giving up on a piece when you're frustrated often pays off, as you learn something new. I'd recommend having a little break when you feel disappointed, though - it helps you with gaining a new perspective and a fresh look; it's easier to find and fix mistakes.
The thing with colors is true, it looks more pleasant to the eye. You also have to look at the environment (if you choose a more complex background) and reflective lights etc. Colors are quite complicated, but fun. And besides that, you just need to trust yourself and choose what looks best for you.
