Description As other pictures of my space pilot Karina suggest, she seems to have the worst luck with starship drives that break down and leave her stuck in the middle of nowhere when she also happens to be pregnant; that's also the case here. About 15 weeks along with a baby that's grown quite large surprisingly quickly, Karina here is in her scout ship's engine room making sure the hyperdrive doesn't conk out again before she can reach a starport a few days away where she can donate her fetus to a gene vendor station.

I used to play Traveller. Karina reminds of a my character Memory. Is she Imperial or Solomani? Which sector does she live in? Solomani Rim or Spinward Marches?

The original Karina (whom I rolled up in 1984) was an Imperial Scout born in the Solomani Rim sector, but somehow she ended up mostly adventuring in the Spinward Marches. (Looking back now, it does seem odd that she travelled so far from her homeworld Shululsish, but she was an orphan and didn't have a strong emotional attachment to her home planet. And she did have Pilot-5 and Jack-of-all-Trades-3, so maybe her James-Bond-like versatility made her in-demand in a lot of hot spots around the Imperium.)

ah, cool, i see she might just be having a baby and not many babies by the way her stomach has grown. she is holding a wrench, and i have seen another one of your picture where she is fixing a ship or some type of machinery. is she a mechanic, engineer or something? very impresive work btw!

Thank you. Karina's best skill as an RPG character was piloting (5 levels of pilot skill in the Traveller RPG made her an expert pilot) but she had also had 3 levels in a strange skill called "Jack of all trades", which gave her a good chance of understanding the basics of almost any task, even if she had little or no training in it. I figured that skill made her kind of like James Bond - a character who's really good at improvising, and that would come in especially handy for Karina since she often flew a one-person scoutship without anyone else on board to help maintain it. (And perhaps also like Bond in fondness for the opposite sex too.)

This is a very good drawing, her pose and expression kinda convey a "here we go again" or a "oh brother" like feeling. Also how many bundles of joy is she carrying this time?

I was thinking just one this time, although I suppose she does look more like she might have two. I looked for images of real pregnant bellies to see what was plausible at 15 weeks, but this would be a rather large fetus at 4 months if it's only one. (Since multiple pregnancies aren't terribly common in real life, I was thinking they shouldn't be terribly common for Karina either; but then again she's obviously unusually fertile so maybe it wouldn't be so uncommon for her to have twins - and another reason she wouldn't want to wait until she's too gigantic before she gives them up to be placed in suspended animation.)

Eh, she could pass for 4 months, remember, belly size is unique to all ladies. Plus its your story, your character, your universe, your biology. Side note, she gives them up before they reach full term and they're put in suspended animation? If so, how does she like go about birthing the baby?

After Karina gives up the fetus at a gene vendor station, it will remain there in suspended animation until another woman adopts it and has it implanted in her womb (or possibly a government or corporation might purchase the fetus to grow in an artificial womb); there's a more detailed description of the gene vendor system in this other picture I drew: Karina-at-gene-vendor-booth .

Well, if she's as big as she is in this, how do they remove the baby and all that, C-Section or what? But thats cool that it gets a chance and she gets to go on with her job and all that, but as always, a good drawing.

Actually, I haven't decided exactly how a fetus would be removed from the womb when it's this far along but I like the idea of medical nanobots doing a lot of the work, anestheticizing the fetus, temporarily dilating the birth canal and gently removing the fetus for transfer to cryogenic suspension. Medical nanobots weren't explicitly part of the Traveller RPG that Karina came from, but neither was the gene vendor system; given that the setting is 3000 years in the future, I think it's not unreasonable to assume that nanotechnology could be quite advanced by then.

Yeah, I'm sure the technology could suit that role. Also remember, your story, your fiction, your rules.

Indeed. I resisted emphasizing this aspect of her character for a long time, but I always pictured her as a kind and sensitive person, and I think earth-motherly fertility goes with that well.

Her upper body and legs look very well proportioned, hwoever her toes look a little blocky to me.
Aside from that, a fabulously done picture.

Thank you for the kind comments, and also pointing that out about the toes; I think maybe I was just lazy about the toes because most people don't seem to care much about feet, but I went back and added a little extra roundness after your comment. (Perhaps not noticeable, but I'll keep that detail in mind for future pictures.)

Well, not as many people appreciate art like I do. Most people are simply looking for... Excuse the language, "Wank fodder" and don't pay attention to anything else.

I can see a light difference in the toes. Her right foot looks a lot better.

Keep up the good work!
