"Ligeruar"

Panthera atrox. My first ice age mammal drawing . Here we have the felid, Panthera atrox.

Once known as the American Lion as it was thought to be a part of the same species as the modern lion (Panthera leo). But more anatomical research shows that its different enough from the modern lion to be classified as its own species. Studies of its brain case show it had more similarities to tigers (Panthera tigris) but more recent genetic studies show that it had more in common with the jaguar (Panthera onca).

So that's the idea behind its design.

The background looks like crap because I lost interest in it after some mishaps with the new masking film I was using. It tore the paper left right and center. Took some real effort to cover up the tears.

Completed on the 29th of August 2011.

Done using airbrush acrylics and regular acrylics.
