as far as i recall i remember there wre genetic studies showing it is actually a lion not a jaguar three genetic sequencing techniques were used and all three resulted to be more closely related to the lion, also it shows it is a direct decendant to panthera spelaea and cavearts on spelaea show they look exactly like lions (cave arts like 15,000 years old)

I like it, but I actually work with this guy (I work at the La Brea Tar Pits) and I don't think he'd have spots. Most of us think he looked more like a modern day lion in color due to the environment that it lived in. We're also pretty sure it didn't have any kind of mane, though I like the way you did the fur almost like an adolescent male lion... it adds a nice touch. All in all though I do love this picture=]
