Description More recent pictures of my progress on my bee hive woman.

Because it's unfinished I will give a little explanation of what the result will look like, it's a pregnant woman (obviously) who's inside is a beehive, once she's fired there will be wax and other details in mixed media added to the hive. The hole on her belly provides a view of the beehive from the front, it also shows how the figure can no longer contain the hive, and provides access to the honey inside (once the arm is attached there will be honey dripping from the fingers that are reaching inside)

Any feedback or interpretations would be great!

Beautiful hands...

I love commenting on the unfinished photos. It just makes me feel like I'm experiencing the sculpting and growth of the piece more personally...

That isn't to say that I'm not completely and utterly in loving awe of the finishing touches. Really really great... I would have chosen to do it no differently. And it really does the figure justice.

That's always something I worry about... whether the finishing, completing touches will do the vision justice. Congratulations on the accomplishment. Sit back and stare at it satisfyingly for a long time. Try not to criticize it. (if you are anything like me- you will. haha. You're profile says you over analyze. yeah. I can sympathize. oh how I can sympathize)

But truly... allow yourself to be impressed with yourself. and eat an ice cream while you revel in your own glory. You deserve it.

I completely understand.. about the whole cruise control thing.. it limits one's imagination.

My first reaction to this piece is, yuck!.. I feel like the bees are a parasite devouring the women from the inside out.. But looking at it more closely i feel like she is the mother of the bees.. the way she is positioned (maybe it's just the photo angle) her arm over her belly, and the way her hand looks like it may be balling into a fist, she is protecting them.. From what? The outside world.. She may be a representation of mother nature.. I love this piece, can't wait to see the end product.. Even though it already looks good. Reading your description again, her hand will be reaching into her stomache to get the honey..? my my.. cool idea..The more i look at it, i discover new meanings to your piece..i could go one for a while...well i better let you go. take care, have fun making it!

So many reasons...I hope that every person that sees this piece has their own, and I can't give you mine because I want it too be open to interpretation, sometimes knowing the artists intentions stops the audience from really thinking about what they are looking at. So I'm sorry...I don't want my audience's brains to be on cruise control... lol.

So tell me... What do the bees mean for you in this piece? What do you understand from it?
