I'm not so sure I interpret this piece the same way ^2dazed did. Even after looking at the other photos it feels more destructive to me. I understand where the idea comes from, but it still feels to me like motherhood, or some part of being a woman is eating at her.
It could be just my mood, or from my fear of bees. I'm not even a mother, so I guess in some ways, it's a concept I really can not completely understand. But while this piece is amazingly well crafted, and beautiful, it gives me a bit of the chills.

Thank you for the compliments, and really, that is what I love about this piece, that each viewer sees it in a different way, the the reactions I've gotten from this piece have really reflected the dichotomous qualities of joy and suffering. I have not been a mother either but I find that every time that I try to talk about it I find myself giving a different version of the truth that is dependent on my current state of mind, but each is true, so perhaps it is your mood, or the quality of these pictures, or maybe that is just what you see, and there is nothing false about it.

as i have said before and will probably say many times again, thank you! you are too kind... and yes this reply is overdue, but it's taking me a while to deal with my inbox since then... gah work! but yesterday I was finally able to do some of my work, and i actually spent 6 hours sanding her down, getting all the failed attempts of paint before finding this finish off, now she is almost completely back to raw clay, looking very naked and very white, after I finishing stripping her ( ) and re-priming, and sanding, sanding, sanding, I will then be able to paint, finish, and seal her. Then she will be super smooth, and the beehive will be cleaner and cooler, and I will add other materials like beeswax, and replace fast cheap materials with better options (such as the glue-gun glue on her fingers used to mimic honey will be replaced with tinted resin, etc.) and then I will take better pictures for the book! yay!
ohhh what a random rant!
:blow kiss:

Wow.
Well, first, the art is amazing. I like the almost minimalist quality to the woman's skin- the fine, simple lines of the nude and the glossy black color. Then, the contrast to the beehive and dripping honey and such is amazing, artistically- the color of the honeycomb is really intense, in a non-garish way, compared to the black, and the complex geometric designs look amazing next to the organic smoothness of the nude. Also, after viewing some other views, the twisting of that one arm's black smoothness with the honeycomb is excellent, and the work and detail you put into covering the inside with the cells is also amazingly done, especially considering how time consuming and tedious it must have been.
That said, the overall piece is unsettling to me. I can definitely see your meaning from your statement in the work. The pose itself is so calming, except for that hand, reaching inside. The stuff dripping could be honey or intestines, bountiful, sweet food or bodily pain. The torn edges and dripping honey are reminiscent of some terrible wound. Maybe this reflects my lack of desire to ever be pregnant, but it seems sinister to me, haunting. It makes me want to look, but be uncomfortable while doing so.
Very good piece.
