The next day…

Amy huffed as she crossed her arms. She was sitting in her apartment like Shadow had ordered. “This isn’t fair!” She yelled out. I’m completely bored here. And if I want to go out, I have to get an escort. Wonderful. I know Shadow only has good intentions but still, I can’t help but feel he is being overprotective. But then I guess I can’t blame him either, especially since the incident with Maria and all…” She paused for a minute. “Hey wait a second! I’m talking to myself again! DAMN IT!”

She laid on her bed as she flipped through the channels on the TV. Nothing too interesting.

“Boring, boring, boring… A cooking show, boring, boring… A special on chao… Maybe…”

Someone knocked on the door.

“Coming!” Amy called. She didn’t know who it was, nor did she care. Either way, it was better than being alone in her room, waiting for the days to pass by.

She opened the door and gasped at who was in the doorway. Her eyes twinkled.

“Sonic!” She yelled with delight.

“Hey Amy!” He smiled. “What’s up?”

“Well…” She began. “Not much… You see Shadow-”

“Yeah, I know. He uh, already told me.”

“It’s just so boring here. What am I supposed to do here?”

“Well, you know as long as you’re out with somebody like yours truly, you can go out.”

“I think that rule is really stupid. You didn’t tell off Shadow when he told you about this? You didn’t think that rule was ridiculous?”

Sonic sighed. “Well, I actually agree with him.”

“WHAT?!”

“Look, there have been tons of attacks reported lately. It’s really dangerous right now. To make matters worse, they seem to want you too. And they’ll do anything to do it. If you stay in your apartment, we’ll know where you are at all times. And if your apartment gets attacked, we’ll know you’re there too to save you. And when you’re out with somebody they can help protect you until the others get here. Don’t hold this against us. We just want to make sure you’re safe.”

Amy sighed. “I know… I’m sorry, Sonic. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful or anything. It’s just… Well… It seems like just a while ago I had such a simple happy life, but now… Everything’s so complicated.”

“But what about the happy?”

“It’s hard to say anymore… What’s there really to be happy about? There’s a total psychopath who wants to destroy the world, he’s really powerful and may be strong enough to pull it off, I can’t leave my apartment without an escort because that psychopath is after to me… It isn’t really a vacation.”

“I hear you…” Sonic sighed. “So… We’ll have to fix that! Want to go out?”

“Really?”

“You bet! And with someone like me guarding you, you’ve got nothing to worry about!”

“Thanks Sonic! I could really use a break! Besides, this means we get another date!” She giggled.

Sonic laughed. “Whatever you say. But how about this time I chose where we go?”

“Fine by me! As long as we get out of this room!”

“Are you claustrophobic or something? Because you seem a little anxious to get out of this room…”

“No, I’m not claustrophobic. I just hate sitting around all day. And you’re one to talk! You can’t sit still for two minutes. You’re always on the go!”

“Okay, okay… Point taken! Why don’t we go out now? There’s no point in wasting the day arguing.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

They walked out the door together. Sonic walked in a direction as Amy followed.

“So…” Amy began. “Am I allowed to know where we’re going?”

“Nope! It’s a surprise!” He smiled.

“Okay. I hope it’s a good surprise.”

“Believe me, it’s a good surprise. It’s in the Mystic Ruins.”

“That explains why we’re heading towards the train station…”

They boarded the train heading to the Mystic Ruins. They sat down next to each other.

“Hey wait…” Amy exclaimed. “We’re not going into the jungle, are we? Because last time I went in there with Shadow and we got lost. I don’t want to do that again.”

“Don’t worry. We’re not going into the jungle. Wait, when were you in the jungle with Shadow?”

“Oh not too long ago. A little before those stupid robots started attacking. Why does it matter?”

“Oh, no reason!” Sonic became slightly red. “No reason at all…”

“Sonic, you trust him right? I mean before I wasn’t so sure you liked him. I mean I know you don’t LIKE him, but I thought you at least trusted him.”

“I do trust him. He did help us save the world after all, right?”

“Then why’d you ask?”

“I told you! No reason. Just a curious question. That’s all.”

“If you say so, Sonic.” Amy whispered. She was worried Sonic was now angry with her.
“So, um… any news on those machines?”

“Nope. Unfortunately, we don’t have any leads. I’m also wondered who- and what their ‘Master’ is. I wonder if it’s just a bigger, more powerful robot.”

“I don’t know about that. The guys that shot Shadow weren’t robots. They looked a lot like you and me, Sonic. But I don’t think they’re from here. Like aliens or something. Besides, I don’t think a robot could do all this. I think it takes a real mastermind to cause all this destruction. And someone’s got to be building these machines.”

“Never thought about that. Maybe you’re right.”

“Well, I guess if we don’t have any leads, I’m going to have to wait longer to leave my apartment alone.”

“Yeah, guess so. Sorry about this. But, I’ll try to come and take you out as often as I can okay?”

“Thanks Sonic.”
“Looks like we’re here.”

“Oh, wow! The time passed by really quickly!” She smiled.

They stepped off the train together and walked down the stairway.

“This way.” Sonic directed as he pointed. Amy followed him.

They walked into a cavern with air gusting rapidly upwards.

“I’ve never been in here before. Wonder why I never noticed this.” Amy asked herself.

“Come on!” Sonic exclaimed happily as he walked towards the gusting winds.

“Where? There’s nowhere to go!” Amy shouted.

“We ride up the winds. They’ll carry us up!”

“I don’t think they’re powerful enough. And if we fall, I don’t know how deep the hole is below!”

“Amy?”

“Yeah, Sonic.”

“You trust Shadow, right?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“So, do you trust me?”

“Of course I do, Sonic. I’d entrust my life to you.”

He held out his hand to Amy. She grabbed it happily and together they walked towards the gusting winds.

“I believe in you, Sonic.”

They jumped together, hand in hand, into the winds.
