This will never happen in real life! In real life they are mortal enemies. Sadly...
Why I drew this? Because all the "lion kill hyena" drawings sucks totally! I like both, lions and hyenas (well, hyenas a bit more).
Yeah, the drawing is no spectacular, but I like how it turned out. That's rare.
Uh, and I know that hyena cubs are darker, but I wanted to draw one with spots.
Done with copic markers, colored pencils, Faber Castell artistic pen and white gel pen
Do not use without permission!

Yeah, in the wild they would do so. But lions and hyenas can become friends sometimes, if they grow up together in captivity.

I've seen photos of real lions and hyenas being friends, but they were raised together in captivity, so I don't suppose we'll ever know if it can happen in the wild.
Anyway, I totally agree with you on this, and that is why my mate and I (yes, we're furries; I'm a hyena, and he's a lion) together have founded the Universal Alliance of Lions and Hyenas. (UALH for short) [link]
