Do you know I saw this and thought 'my gods, did Elf draw Maedhros?' my next thought of course was 'oooh I wonder if I can get Elf to draw Maedhros being tortured by Melkor?'
I am pleased to find you accidentally drew him, the second thought remains on hold...... Even with out the ears, his face is so long which is what made me think elf. Have you noticed elves seem to always be long faced?Β

Well, round-faced mongrels like me just don't look regal enough - so I know why elongated features are preferred in at least one case! :]
And yeah... as soon as I design Melkor. There's been so many takes on him, though, that it's almost a fruitless labour.

you work with what you have...and if you end up writing stories where all the gorgeous people die... no ones going to guess -evil grin-

Okay. I'd still trade for aquiline features.

You and your knowing about how brushes work. I have to say the brushes you gave me made a WORLD of difference when it comes to coloring in PS, so I am deeming you the keeper of the brush-knowledge.
I love how sketchy the lineart is, almost like charcoal pencil. And you draw a good dude. You vary the face and nose shape a lot and it helps give each character ...character. Shh.

Haha, thanks! I try not to have an army of clones - something I probably have been hugely guilty of in the past, and am slightly less guilty of now.
And gosh, I'm glad to hear the brushes help you! It's funny how a crappy tool can sometimes hamper the art. Granted, that's not as frequent as people spending lots of money on better tools when they have to spend talent points in their art skill tree first...
...how did this devolve into a gaming analogy, I do not know.

I feel like people who grew up drawing in 90s anime style tended toward the cloning (myself included) because anime back then (and now) tended not to bother with different facial structure. You just had the different shaped eyes, and by God, that was enough.
They're a huge help! Also made me feel way better about using PS and that i wasn't just a failure at it.
How do any of our conversations spiral out into the abyss?

Oh anime. I have so many issues with it. XD It's always a dangerous subject to breach though, because, as you've said, we pretty much grew up on that stuff and most hold it near and dear to their heart.
SINCE I HAVE NO HEART I AM FINE WITH HATE.
I think caps lock helps the spiraling, really.

It is true. I feel like it was a good place for a lot of people to START from. It was something you could imitate until you got comfortable drawing people enough to start shaping your own style. And it does some amazing stuff with hair, c'mon. I look back at my really old art and squint at triangle noses, though.
It's true, capslock and careening out of control do sort of go hand in hand.
