They are construction lines, or rather the first rough sketch, but I use a colored pencil for precisely that reason you mentioned. I think it adds a nice feeling of style to the drawings. I also sketch in layers like this without erasing, if the rough sketch is in yellow or orange, it just kinda fades into the BG.

I think it works better on slightly rougher drawings though.

Sometimes I also was trying doing the first sketch in orange, final lines in red and afterwards going over some areas with blue to add emphasis. I think that can look quite nice.

It just didn't end up looking like I wanted to. There are proportion issues and Its also a bit too big for the body, which is a part of why I angled the photo a bit. It helps give the feeling the proportions are more correct than they actually are.

Ah, yeah. I guess now that you point it out I can see it. True enough. Still, it looks pretty good for what it is. I'd still want to be able to draw as well as you. Anyway, sorry for the late reply, if that means anything.
