Fanart for "Oniisama e..." a.k.a. "Brother, Dear Brother", a classic shoujo anime I seem to be obsessed with, which really sucks when nobody else I know has seen it X( . I think what makes this show so great is that every single episode is packed to the brim with atmosphere. The whole thing is put together with such artistry that everything that happens is really beautiful and dramatic, even if, objectively speaking, it's also completely ridiculous!These are Fukiko (girl with crazy ringlets) and Saint-Juste (girl in crazy tuxedo). Their relationship is "complicated", and by "complicated" I mean "weird and also highly screwed-up". I put them in the ocean because I really like how in the series Fukiko is frequently shown in or near water, even before the viewer learns the significance of it (and also, because I messed up their legs
). I drew this some time back and only got around to finishing it now, so it looks a little wonky. And I just realized that if they were really standing in water, then Fukiko's skirt should probably be clinging or else floating on the surface of the water rather than poofing outwards like that. Oh well; let's just attribute it to the bizarre physics of Planet Melodrama!

If you can use Bittorrent, there's a torrent with all of the episodes here . The video quality is fairly poor since it's ripped directly from old VHS fansubs, but it's at least watchable. Alternately, this person on Youtube has most if not all the episodes uploaded.

I never saw the anime of this, but I did read the manga (which probably was better anyway). If you liked that anime, you should check the comics made by that author, they're pretty much all like that (and all wellmade).

In my opinion, the anime is better. The manga has a prettier art style, but the anime is longer and fleshes out the characters much more (particularly Fukiko, given that she's my favorite).

Mmh, then probably this is one of the rare cases in which the anime can in fact surpass the manga it was taken from. I have never seen the anime of "Dear Brother", so I'll trust your opinion. :3
"Rose of Versailles"? Fun you should mention it! That manga/anime is a big cult here in Italy and every now and then they re-release the dvd set.
I'd also suggest you "The window of Orpheus", if you didn't check it already. Again, I'm speaking of the manga however (I don't even know if they made an anime of it).
And even though it's quite different, you should check the manga of "The glass mask". The characters were very stereotyped, but the way the author portayed the feel of a theatre actress'life was superb. (Once more I refer to the manga: in this case, I saw the anime, but didn't like it.)

Well, it's pretty unusual, but it happens sometimes.
I've read a little of the Orpheus no Mado manga scanlated. I'll have to look for Glass Mask as well. I've been meaning to read it, but was always intimidated by the length... it seems to have a lot of volumes for a shoujo series.
