Description Pangolins are one of my favorite animals. They live in tropical regions throughout Africa and Asia. Pangolins are insectivores, and just like the anteater, they have very long tongues. All eight species of the pangolin are classified by the IUCN Red List as threatened to extinction do to overhunting for meat and for "medicinal" qualities.

Size: 31cm (12.2in) from head to tail and 14cm (5.5in)tall

And time for the adorableness of the Pangolin:

This is really good! I love pangolins because they look like Sandslash from pokemon.

Well actually, Sandshrew and Sandslash are base on the pangolin. It is sad that most people do not know this and how pangolins are the World's most hunted animal.

I think they also look a bit like pinecones.

They're sooooooooo cute! I wish they weren't endangered, because I'd love to keep one as a pet.

Wow! I didn't even know they existed until I read your description. I thought, maybe it's an invented creature of yours. But wow! *_* It looks very fascinating, very unusual. *uses internet to google pangolins *

It's nice how detailed those scales (are they scales?) are, as well as that loveley face.

I am glad that I have enlightened you with a new animal. I am not surprised that you did not know what a pangolin was until now. For two reasons. Pangolins are VERY rare and unusual animals.
Yes, those are individually hand-made scales. The smaller ones on the legs and face were killers. Thank you for commenting on the cute face.

HAHAHA!!! I wish I could do metal work but this is 100% fired clay and glaze. But I can tell you this. My Pangolin is hollow inside. I started by making two pitch pot bowls, then I put two bowl together. With a small paddle I smooth the football size thing out. After it smooth out then I put the large ball on a wooden plate. Make the head, tail, legs, arms, and claws all which are hollow out accept for the claws. The scales are individually made and I went up from the tail to head. I estimated there is about 80-150 scales on it. The glaze came after the first fired. I was so happy that it did not exploded in the kiln. I only used three glazes for it. Sprayed the first coat then hand painted the eyes and under underbelly. All together this tooked me about five weeks.
