No, I wasn't close. I just used a medium telephoto lens with 135 mm focal length.
And the photo was taken in a zoo through the bars (that's why you can see a slight grayish blur in front of the cat where bars were). Though I tried to erase the blur in photoshop and managed to do that at least partly.
