Description "Technology will one day get so innovative, and so advanced in such a fast rate, that we will no longer be able to keep up with it, and it will drag us toward dangerous heights, before it drops us to our demise."

The only portfolio piece I did not make for any class- it is made souly for the Illustration Portfolio Review! What companies look for today is communication and clarity, and that was what I try to achieve here. I also realized I don't have enough humans in my portfolio as I should. This is something different for me for a change, and I hope it's for the better!

As you may guess, I don't own a cel phone.

Looks great! I think the main problem with technology is that it no longer exists to better our lives, it exists as a marketing trick to dupe people in buying useless things.

I don't have a cell phone either. It drives me crazy when I see people texting in class.

Hah that reminds me of when my crazy art teacher had those of us with cell phones (which was like ten) play our ringtones all at the same time.. it was like creepy dollhouse music!! Scariness.

Great piece!! I love the person in the background flipping or whatever and the coloring is really good looking ^^

Teachers tell their students to play ringtones at the same time for entertainment?! In MY day, all we did was use our own vocal cords, believe it or not! Kids, these days!

Love the subject matter in the pic. It just showed how people could be addicted to cellphones and it gave a really strong message. Sometimes people doesn't always have to rely on technology.

BTW what program did you use for that picture? Photoshop? Painter?

Ugh, cell phones... My mom nearly got killed in two seperate car crashes because she'd get hit by people that were too busy on their cell phones to watch the road... morons.
Fortunately my mom's okay now (aside from a few reoccuring back troubles), and we're moving to Missouri, 'cause it's less likely to be dripping with idiot drivers like California.

Meh, you could always to move to Nor-Cal. You live in So-Cal, right? If so, I suggest moving to Nor-Cal, it's much better up here. Missouri's loaded with hillbillies, you know.

I don't have a cell phone either. I prefer to talk by messenger pidgeon

I like the guy hanging upside-down. Why don't they let go of the phones

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andrewk In reply to starearo [2004-04-30 13:32:07 +0000 UTC]

'Cause they'd fall to their deaths if they let go, but they also don't want to be stuck going upward into the atmosphere for infinity! It's a double-edged sword.

humanbs will always rule technology. i dont think it can get away from us

andrewk In reply to fuzzywuzzywooky [2004-04-30 13:33:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, my quote reminds me more of the same view people in the turn of the century had- machines will one day rule over us instead of using ruling over them. It's another turn of the century, so that view may have changed.

Thats okie. I own one and I loath the little thing most of the time. When I can't find it, its because i've locked it in the car, kicked it under the couch or left it in my kid's diaper bag. They're hell...
Wonderful expression! And you caught exactly what you were goin for perfectly! A good portfolio piece.

YOU don't have one?! No way! I see every-flippin'-one at my scho-flippin'-ol, walking around talking into tiny speakers! Any one of them could into a manhole any minute!

How do you think I feel when I'm navigating the crazy traffic in LA? Every single driver's head stuck to one of those things? Any one of those SUVs could drop into a manhole at any minute! Well, at least roll a tire over one.

Reminds me of the short cartoon "Jimmy's Balloon" (not quite sure of the title but eh) where small children are lifted up and up and up by balloons, only to be dropped at the last moment. That hopeless look on the person's face really speaks to me...

andrewk In reply to espers [2004-04-30 02:13:44 +0000 UTC]

I am thinking of a cartoon where balloons revolt against the kids by basically torturing them! That was HILARIOUS! It was probably a project from my school, because I don't think anyone's heard of it.

The one I'm thinking of is by somebody named...Don Hirschfield, I think?

That'd be cool if we were both talking about the same cartoon!
