This photo instantly caught my attention. Sharp subject in combination with shallow depth of field with autumn colorful surroundings are in perfect harmony. And the fact that it semms that deer is looking straight to the viewer gives even greater impact. It really shows in the photo the thought that has been put in the settings of the camera and composing the shot.
I can't find many flaws with this photo. Only two things can be done to polish otherwise perfect photo: little more sharpening on the deer and maybe add a bit saturation on him because he looks a bit "flat" compared to the foreground and background.
This photo is in the top of the wildlife photography I've seen here on DA. And it takes a lot of waiting or huge amount of pure luck to capture the shot like this with perfect setting and composition.

Being color blind definetly didn't stop you to be a great photographer. I have a friend who is a painter (and a very good one) and she is colour blind too
Learning about photography I stumled upon one great advice somwhere on the Internet. Since all digital photos tend to be a bit flat, especially ones taken in the nature or on the overcast day, it is good to enhace the micro contrast during the post processing. In photoshop it is very simple, open the unsharp mask (under filters - sharpen), and adjust the following amount 10%, radius 50, threshold 0.
It is a subtle change, but adds a lot of life and depth to the picture.
I use it sometimes once, and sometimes twice, depends on the photo

Makes Me See Things A Bit Differently To Other People.
As You Said This Sort Of Thing Can Take A Lot Of Time And Patience.
In This Instance I Had The Location In Mind And Just Had To Wait For
A Stag To Place Himself In Roughly The Right Spot For Me.

good enough?!?!?!? geez man .... your shots are amazing .... some more amazing than others but I don't think I remember a shot of yours that I didn't like. The one I suggested sort of stood out a bit and I thought it would be well received. And it would give you some more exposure and that is never a bad thing .... right?

oh man .... been there! I went thru the same shit actually. I still agonize WAY too much when I am cleaning up a picture of mine. If it belongs to someone else I am fine with it and really enjoy photo editing. I dunno what changed for me but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did. But I do understand how it is so tough to be objective when it comes to your own work. Well ... at least for some of us eh?

I agree ... totally. But I find I am much happier now letting go of the stress. I still try to do my best ... I have just come to terms with the pressure. I feel like it was effecting my images in a negative way often.
