Description I don't normally show my work in its stages as it normally looks sooooo crap and scruffy. But I made a conscious decision to try and save some stages with my Smaug painting.

Anyway I don't think it will help anyone but I might show how I get to where I am going when I do stuff.

Thanks for looking

Beautiful. The sketch reminds me of the illustrations in Dragonworld.

Why his tail so long, Andy??) Or, maybe, we don't know something important about dragon's anathomy..)

That's a reasonable way to go about it, Andy. I do like the palette in this.

Still a bit too soon, I had a bit of minor surgery a couple of weeks ago, and feel great, but my "art brain" is still in recovery mode. I really mucked up the current digital piece the other day. Good thing I can delete that layer.

Even without explanation, we can still see your thinking process and that is really valuable to an artist who is looking at new ways to approach art. Thank you for sharing this!

Oh that's good then. I love to see how other artists do their thang. Usually a bit more structured than me.

This is awesome. I've been waiting to see a WIP steps from you. It's always helpful in some way to see other peoples methods to madness.

Thanks Kat! Yeah I have always been meaning to do one. I am not as structured or knowledgeable in photoshop as a lot of artists so I hold back cos I think it would show...not that that is important! But I agree I like to see other artists WIP's

I started it as a rough sketch on paper ( which didn't scan properly ) and painted it all in Photoshop CS2. Thank you
