She also tries to cheer up anyone who's sad, though that's often somewhat hard as she's not very good at talking thanks to her not being able to hear. She is known though to be rather determined and isn't the type of person to give up easily, and no matter what, she'll always try giving her best in every aspect of life.

- Her cheerfulness and determined nature often makes it easy for some to listen to her orders. Though due to her being deaf, it's nothing new that some will go behind her back, despite people seemingly listening to her.

- When in combat, not much about her personality changes as it seems like she's treating it like a game. She does understand the severity of the situation, she just doesn't like taking things too seriously.

- The biggest flaw about her happy-go-lucky and cheerful personality, is the fact that it can often seem inappropriate. She has a tendency to try to make light of a bad situation and it just often comes off as being insensitive.

- She also has acrophobia, which is a fear of heights.

  Appearance: To release it, she still needs to speak the command. To do that, she holds out the katana in front of her horizontally, she utters the command and the blade straightens and molds into a turning fork.

  Abilities: Normally due to it being a tuning fork, each hit it takes and gives, will create a sound wave which can disorient those who hear it.
- Fukyowaon (不協和音) Cacophony: This attack creates a loud waves of sound that can cause those who are too close to it pass out, those farther away will get slightly disoriented.

History

Human Life: Mao was born to a couple of runaways in the Seychelles islands, it was her parents home but they hadn't lived there for a long time as they never really stayed at the same place for too long. They did stay in the Seychelles for some time before they started moving around again, going to India for a short while before settling in China. Each time they settled they changed their names as a way to stay more hidden in each place they stayed. They lived in China up until Mao was 10 years old, then they managed to move to Japan, once more changing their names. Living there was slightly difficult as they didn't have much money and it was hard for them to make ends meet, but they did live near a forested mountain. One day when Mao was playing on the mountain, much to her parents chagrin, when she was playing to close to the edge she slipped and fell down a cliff. It wasn't a big cliff but just below her there was an old broken tree that she landed on. That tree ended up partially impaling her left side, opening her up and spilling her organs. Her body was found by a neighbour who was coming home from a long trip, it was hours after her accident. Her parents where already looking for her on the mountain when the neighbour found them and showed her father the corpse. Her mother never saw the carnage.

Rukon: As she was quite young when she entered Rukongai, she was picked up by a family in district 38. There she lived an alright life but it was hard on her new family to learn how to deal with her lack of hearing. Though thankfully they managed to scrape enough money to get them all sign language lessons and they personally helped her be able to speak out loud just in case she needed to. Her new siblings also helped a lot. As when she was alive, she had a tendency to wander around, which caused her to be well known in the neighbourhood. Eventually out of sheer curiosity, she ended up trying out for Shino academy, it took a few tries but eventually she was accepted.

Shino Academy: She was a devoted student and even if she occasionally had to get extra lessons due to her special needs. But as she already knew how to read lips, she managed to scrape by. In the end she had to stay an extra year as the teachers wanted to make sure she had gotten a hang of everything and she'd been given all the information needed.

Shinigami: Once she had graduated the academy, she quickly joined the 5th division and worked hard to rise up the ranks. Though that wasn't her biggest concern. She tried her best to communicate as much as she could and did get some more help with trying to talk. She did know that some did tease her behind her back because she couldn't hear.
