Shirley, I had a lot of fun painting her. I used photographs of actual burlesque girls to be as authentic as possible.

Very neat pose!!! The details are very lovely, especially the work you did on the dress, stockings, and shoes! This looks like it was a real challenge

I always appreciate your comments. You're a booster shot in the arm. I'm going to start applying underglaze within the next few days. I first had to place all my color choices into the kiln on test pieces to see how they would take the heat. They came out very well and now I can begin to apply them.

I hope to begin adding color this month. I have some shards with color samples that I'm putting in the kiln to see how the colors work out.

That's really cool. Must be fun sitting there and making little sculptures. My grandma used to make dolls that looked like real babies and little children, that impressed me always. It must be great to be able to do such art.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndySerrano In reply to ShirayukiOuji [2011-05-01 19:01:06 +0000 UTC]

Yes. It is a lot of fun making these. I've had the skill since childhood, but only reawakened it in the last six months. Because the sculptures are so small, it is like doing microsurgery. Sometimes I have to wear an eyepiece so I can see what I am doing and get headaches from focusing.

I just finished glazing "The Leap" and "Swing Girl" and will be putting them in the kiln on Wednesday.

Great to see you still at it. She's looking great! Sculpting-wise, I'm afraid I've become very unmotivated lately. Too busy working on my novel, and with the recession getting worse here in the UK, no one seems to be wanting to buy my humble little works.

AndySerrano In reply to Forestina-Fotos [2011-03-31 13:12:49 +0000 UTC]

You seem very motivated Tara! You're writing your long-anticipated book.

I'm sorry to hear the recession is deepening in the U.K. Our conservatives in the US are happily forcing us to walk down the same path as your people are doing. We should be following soon with a deepening of our recession.

I'll be entering my "girls" in various ceramics shows this summer.

Forestina-Fotos In reply to AndySerrano [2011-03-31 14:54:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes, this novel is very important to me, even if it never gets published.

To be honest, I think most of the planet is in recession at the moment!

All the best for the ceramic shows!
