for the fave on Philosopher's Walk. Barbara and I took this walk on a Sunday, starting at 7 AM, when the least number of people would likely be awake and present. This was ideal since it allowed me to take photos free of people in the background. The morning light is also much nicer. The Walk Tetsugaku no Michi) follows a [cherry-tree]]-lined canal in Kyoto, Japan, between Ginkaku-ji and Nyakuoji-jinja. The route is named because a Kyoto University philosophy professor, Nishida Kitaro, used it for daily meditation. It passes several temples and shrines such as Miroku-in, Otoyo-jinja, and Koun-ji. Cherry trees are planted along most of the over one kilometer long path, making it one of Kyoto's most popular spots for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in spring. The trees are usually in bloom in the beginning to mid April. An older Japanese man approached us and gave us a tour of the Mouse Shrine and walked us to a museum which featured ancient Katana (Swords).
I am honored you added me to your watch list. I always answer any questions you may pose to me.

Hi,
Love your philosophical perspectives... I write poetic reflections about living the creative life. There's a subtle sense of humor as well that I appreciate.
Would love to connect with you online. Maybe you'll like to freely share your beautiful art on www.MagicalGenius.Org

Actually, the industrial/business part of Kyoto is rather dull and common. You have to have a map directing you to the old sections. I actually enjoyed Matsumoto more because I could walk everywhere and meet people a lot more easily than in Kyoto.

Were there any particular places in Kyoto that you enjoyed?

I enjoyed all the old Kyoto historical sites which were about a 20 minute taxi ride from the Cube (J.R. Rail Station) shopping center. I did not at all enjoy modern Kyoto. However, the homes near the Philosopher's walk were very charming and the people were sweet.

I love the depth of the photo. You can see so far into the walk from your view; looks as if you could just walk into it as the children walked into Narnia.
Anyways, the way you captured this famous area, reminds me of a good, quiet time with a friend, conversing and enjoy each others company. That's how I see it anyways. Thanks for sharing. We unfortunately, weren't able to walk this; we were on a schedule.

You were on a schedule? You mean a tour schedule? If so, that is one good reason why I gave up tours. Now I make up my own itineraries.
Thank you deeply for such a beautiful comment! I especially like how you compared it to the children walking into Narnia.

Not really a tour schedule. But our host was kind enough to drive us there, and we really didn't have time to linger anywhere. We went on a day that was less than ideal according to our host, but it was the only day we could go (that is the sun wasn't out to bring out the glory and beauty of the Golden Pavillion). If we took ourselves, we would've had time probably, unless we got lost. But of course driving would be more practical than taking the train, with the station changes we'd have to take, etc.
Anyways, at that moment it brought that image to my mind. So you're welcome.

you are welcome for the fav. I'll get through the rest of your photos from Japan as I have time. I've got to refinish a floor in my old home so we can rent it -- probably to someone rendered homeless through Hurricane Ike.
We were fortunate. Our homes withstood Ike's wrath.

When I arrived in Kyoto, I was severely disappointed. Kyoto at the train station looked like just another Japanese big city. Plus, I had a hard time finding a hotel since it was a national Holiday. However, once I got to the Philosopher's walk, my opinion changed completely. This area made it worth the long trip to Kyoto. In addition, there were hardly any people there to interfere with the tranquility. Thank you for the fave
